Autozone vs. Advance

So, I do what I usually do and start checking out prices for my project. I need all of the A/C parts as well as alternator, voltage regulator, wiper motor, ignition module, and a lot of other parts. I decide that I'll start a little spreadsheet to compare prices. I used Autozone, Advance, O'Reilly, NAPA, and even RockAuto. When after a few parts some places just fell out completely, it came down to the two chains that had the same type of parts. But, I gotta say, it is wild how i find the exact same part for a better price *consistently* at Autozone. Every part I looked up was cheaper there.

Here's just several comparisons of parts (Autozone and Advance)...

56.99 and 59.99
31.99 and 44.99
18.99 and 26.99
47.99 and 57.48
52.99 and 55.94

I figured they would flip-flop on prices - higher at one place on one thing, lower on another thing. Not so. Everything was cheaper at Autozone. With just those parts above, I am saving over $36. I haven't even listed oil, filters, tune-up stuff, anti-freeze, etc.

So, I bet you can guess where I am getting my parts.

And don't forget the Autozone Rewards card that gives you money back. Everytime you spend $20, they put money on your card. Not sure what the rate is, but it's something. It's not a charge card, but rather just store credit. Good stuff.

Neither will be the cheapest. Parts Warehouse is the place to go. I can verify (as posted here previously) that I have seen their prices to be up to 1/3 that of O'Reilly's on the exact same part. Because of that, I will NEVER step into an O'Reilly's again.

Yeah, I checked O'Reilly's and they are very proud of their parts. Did you mean that PW is 1/3 of the O'Reilly price, or that it is up to 1/3 *off* the price?

Gee, if only Parts Warehouse had some better website to go comparison shopping. The URL below just doesn't do it for me.

1/3 the price!

I had a '64 1/2 Coupe back in the spring that needed a new starter switch. Went to O'Reilly's (because it was close) and priced a Borg-Warner switch - 45.95. I thought, that seems a little high. Went to Parts Warehouse and the exact same switch (same BW part number and everything) was $17.00!!!!

They used to require you to prove your business, but now you can just walk in and they'll serve you. Most of the auto repair houses around town get their parts from them.

Huh, I've been going there for 20 years off and on and never had to prove I was a business.

Funny thing is I remember them having a few parts at good prices when I telephoned around trying to find whether a part was in stock and how much it cost.

Dang, Mike. 1/3 the price. That is pricing yourself out of business.

autozone is definitly cheaper. from what I've done overseas, however if you order from online overseas, order from advance, they ship faster for cheaper.....not sure why.

also just for a reference, the standard spark plugs on an 03 cobra from woody, they wanted 8.22 a piece plus tax....that's 70 bucks for plugs.....
I'll be putting autolites in it for 1.49 each.....

Called around last week about a fuel pressure regulator:

44.99 Oreillys
24.99 Advance
18.99 Auto Zone

Called back to Oreillys since I have a commercial account and they price match, so I thought, they said no way. I asked if that was an installed price or what. Wound up driving into Huntsville, bought the part at the Zone plus an FL-1A for good measure and to get my bonus card validated. Then I went and ate at the Chinese buffet with my savings!
