Any of you guys good with wiring?
Any of you guys good with wiring?
After quite some time, I finally have my 87 back together and running pretty darned good. Still has a few bugs to work out, but I can drive it at least. Here's my last wiring issue. Since my car was converted to a 351 carb setup, my stock tach of course no longer works. So for now I have no tach. This bothers me immensely. I would like to wire up the stock tach to work for now until I can buy an Autometer to replace it. Any of you guys know how to do this? After this is done, and some more clutch cable adjustments, I "think" the car will be good enough to drive on occasion. Still need a few odd and end parts, but this one bugs me more than anything else does.
So, how does this compute to the stock instrument cluster? Is the wiring the same on that? Because that sounds like aftermarket tach which in my case won't do me any good.... I'm in the middle of tearing my Ram apart so I won't have time tomorrow to yank the gauge cluster out tomorrow to look.
You are the man, Puter. That is EXACTLY what I needed. I'm assuming from what he was saying, that this is the only wire I really need to focus on then.
"
---Wire #11 (Dark Green/Yellow - 20 Ga) to the negative side of coil or the "tach out" port on an MSD. This is the line to your stock tach. "
That won't take long to do since most of my wires are cut anyways.

Yep. That's me. I figured it out and my tach is now working as it should. Hopefully in a few weeks I can order an Autometer. I ran across USMCrebel the other day on mustangforums.com.
I got a new job today that pays a lot better, so hopefully I can start modding it very soon.

I just got my autometer gauges, a couple week ago. I got tach speedo, water temp, oil pressure, and fuel for $25. I knew a guy the had a drag stang and bought some new ones and he sold them to me for $25. he had a sick 67, dynoed on dynojet at 598rwhp and 653ft/lbs at the wheels, i've never been in a car that has picked me up from the torque. the front end went up!!! (granted not by much but still).
Yeah, hopefully me and 98 can start working on the 351's together soon... this will be another great learning project.
