83 1/2 Turbo GT's
83 1/2 Turbo GT's
Can anyone give us any info on these cars?? Paul and I have came across a pair of them for sale..for a very nice price around $2K for both. I know they are rare as I have never seen them before..But would they be worth buying and restoring? ....maybe perhaps bumping up to a larger turbo
Kendal could probably tell you more than anyone else and probably still has a half dozen or more of them....they weren't stellar performers but they can be built on to make a nice ride....especially with gas prices the way they are currently. They are fairly hard to find because most were neglected or discarded....I've had a couple over the years and one '84 GT Turbo I had that I bought from the original owner was one of the best drivers I've ever had.
I am not sure of the exact number of 83 1\2 GT Turbos, but there were 3798 made in 84. There were only 381 Mercury Capri RS Turbos made in 83, so the 604 number is plausible. Given the numbers, I would be hesitent to modify them, but they would be your car. I don't know how much you know about early Foxes, but I can proved you with some basic info on the car. I can also have the buck tag decoded so you can get even more info. Visit www.foureyedpride.com , I frequent that site and have the same username there. There is a wealth of knowledge over there, and we are very passionate about 79-86 Foxes. Some basic info on the cars. 2.3T, 145hp, Forged internals. T-5 transmission, higher gear ratios then the V8 T5's. Slapper bars instead of quad shocks, and a 7.5 rearend with 3.45 gears. Most came with the TRX wheels, but not all. The engine is very similiar to the engine put into the SVO's, but without the intercooler and a different turbo. As svopaul stated, Kendal would know best, I bought both my Turbo cars off him. If you need anymore info, let me know and I will do my best to find out for you. As far as buying and restoring goes, right now there is not much of a market for those cars. Most people don't even know what an SVO is, let alone a Turbo GT. Most parts are easy to find, but there are some that are next to impossible. Door panels, front bumper covers, body moldings, TRX tires, steering wheels, dashes, center consoles are not reproduced and tough to find in good condition. And of course, if you decide to buy the cars and flip them let me know as I would be interested.
I am not a Mod at the site. If you are haveing problems it is probably due to your email or ISP. So my help would be limited. They are having problems with certian ISPs blocking the site for some strange reason, and cannot get emails. Try sending an email to the Admin and they may be able to help you.

Good luck finding a Pace Car nose in good condition. They don't repro them and the parts are near impossible to find in good condition. You would be better off going with an 85/86 front end, as they are easier to find. The 85/86 LX front ends are also reproduced. When looking for a Pace Car front end, you will also need the Machal fog lamps, and assosiated brackets to mount them. Thats another reason to go with an 85/86 LX front end, no fog lamps, just like 83 GTs. BTW www.mustanggt.org
