UDP

I am told that it is a no no to install a UDP on our 08/09 Bullitts. Some people all ready installed them, without having any problems.
I guess what I need is more input on , If I should or shouldn't do a UDP

under drive pulleys. slows the rotation of the accessories to free up power but it can lower the accessories effectiveness

On my 07 Mustang GT I had a UDP on it .
I had it Dyno'd before and after the UDP install. 7 rwhp and 5 rwtq at about 4500 rpm!

I doubt you could even tell the difference with the additional 7rwhp, or could you? Not being a smart a$$ here, just wondered if 7 rwhp is even noticable?

I'm not sure it is noticeable but the dyno doesn't lie. The udp doesn't make power! It reduces the load!

I have heard they give an increase in mpg's. 7 hp probably can't be felt but its part of the total package.... its a start in the right direction.....for some!

I guess we have a 12 percent driveline loss, a UDP, aluminum driveshaft, will reduce the driveline loss percentage.

The noticeable part of the UDP addition for me was the quickness of the rev during driving. I have a short throw and always ****** second...third, right around 6100 (tuned for 6500 redline). Once I installed the UDPs I hit the rev limiter a few times. My timing was off based on my experience without them. I assume if I'm a half second behind on the shift, then the car is 1/2 second faster.

I know 7hp isn't noticeable, but take away 7hp and you'll notice something is missing. I did get better hwy fuel economy and combined with a CAI, tune, UDP, proper tire inflation and cruising in 5th at 67mph I can consistently get 27+ MPG highway.

Now, burning the tires and snatching gears puts me at 20mpg city (to and from work).

20/27 from a 300 Hp car seems reasonable.

I didn't notice any difference after my UDP install other than the backache.

So does anybody know a reason why you can't put them on a new Bullitt?

UDPs don't require a tune, and the Bullitt engine is a base GT engine with a CAI and tune from Ford, so since they don't require a tune, I don't see how putting UDPs on the Bullitt would be an issue.

The Bullitt engine has a unique dampener.

From one of the Ford Engineers :

The crank damper is retuned for incresed rpm capability. I wouldn't recommend changing it.

That could be costly if something goes wrong. Shake the dice and let it role.

I think a damper is a damper as long as it is of good quality. Ford's are cheap with a rubber insert. Aftermarket is much better made. I would put UDPs on my Bullitt without even worrying about it. Also I have read that the part number is the same on all really late model Mustangs, but I have not confirmed this yet. I will be looking into it.
