Shifter improved for 2008?

I've been reading on some sites where it says that the stock shifter is improved for all mustangs for 2008. The slop is supposedly gone. When I had the 07 gt, there was a lot of slop in it, but it was smooth. Is this true for all the cars?

I've heard others saying the shifter has been improved. Some say it started midyear 07 though, so that I'm sure something has changed.

Hmmm... I can't remember the build date of the 07... it was earlier, though. I hope it's tighter.

I believe the early model year 07's were the same design as the 05-06's. Somewhere midyear is when the switch supposedly happened.

Well, I know the shifter in my GT is significantly better than the ones in the '06s I test drove.

There was a write up in an article on the Bullitt that the shifter was among one of the best they tested at any price. Must be quite an improvement over earlier models but a welcome change. It is not a short throw, but greatly improved nonetheless.

When I picked up my 07, the salesman told me it was an improved shifter. I think it's great and I like it fine.

(On the other hand, the clunky drive train drives me nuts.)

+1

The Bullitt and Shelby GT both have short shifters designed by Hurst. The shifters on the regular GT's have not changed.

I didn't think the Bullitt had any specially designed shifter, just the cosmetics. I think it may be tightened up, but I think it's the same shifter??

The '07 I picked up in April '07 had a very noticibly improved shifter compared to my '05. My fiance even made many comments on it. The '05 was exteremly sloppy. My clutch in my '07 grabs higher on the clutch pedal, also. The '05 does grab till the floor, almost.

I'm ok with mine but I don't have anything recent to compare it to. Doesn't seem sloppy at all. Actually the reverse in that it's a bit "notchy" and seems to hang up getting it into 4th on occasion.

There may not be a difference in the part numbers, but later examples may have had subtle refinements. There may also be some new finessing taking place at the point of installation, too.

My shifter is definitely more precise than the '05.

until someone comes in with an actual manufacturing change all of this just stands as opinion.

no one is for sure until it is proven one way or the other

It may indeed be subjective, but subjectively speaking, it's better.

I too have read reviews stating it is better.

But if there has been an engineering change or manufacturing change there is almost always a change to the part number, at least the suffix

Again, it may be tweaks in the way in which the assembly is installed, as opposed to any sort of major engineering or manufacturing change.

I had a hurst on my 07 v6, so I also know what that is like. I didn't really like it for daily driving, it was just so notchy. I liked the feel of the stock shifter, but a little tighter feel would be awesome.
