Production Delay?

I received a message from my salesman today saying they haven't received a VIN for my car because Ford says Bullitt production is on hold waiting for Bullitt specific parts. Has anyone else heard this?

I haven't...mine was orderd on 11/20, and I got a VIN about a week later (11/29). My Blend date was 12/14, and it's supposed to be built the first week of Jan.

Ford was planning on this huge ordering spike seeing as they knew they were offering only 7,000 in the U.S. I wouldn't think they would allow themselves to run into a parts problem. I don't know, sounds iffy. I'll see what my salesguy says.

I can't see a parts delay this early in production. The delay at this moment is that the plant is shut down for the holidays, and production will not start again until Jan. 2nd.

Mine was ordered on 11/15. It's interesting to watch the Ford priority system at work. Before I placed my order they told me January or early February for delivery so I haven't be pestering them for a VIN number. I did poke them about a week ago with one of the eBay listings.

Thanks. Maybe the Turning Engine broke down or someone in California sold too many Bullitt parts.

Hey 428, what Priority Code did they give your order? And to be honest, your salesperson is just making things up. I have had a Harley Davidson F250 on order for a while. The fellow who ordered it didn't get a VIN for 2 months as we just didn't have allocation (actually no dealer in my region did, Ford cut the production of these for our region SEVERELY). I was honest with him and told him I'll have a VIN when we get the allocation. When we did have 1 Super Duty allotted a few weeks ago, the factory pulled the unit, and I got the VIN on a Friday. Called him up on Saturday just to be sure the order got pulled.

But, seriously, if you don't know what your priority code is for your order, you may want to ask. If its in the high numbers 30-90, it won't get built right away. Best is 10, and goes down from there. Good luck.

Fellow rider here. What's an F250? Never heard of that. I ride a baby Nighthawk right now. Do we have many riders on this forum? I asked about a trailer hitch for the Bullitt for my motorcycle trailer. Do you have any recommendations that would not look too obtrusive on the Bullitt's rear? I would also like a canon plug for the electrical hook-up.

Thanks,

Mike

P.S. Oops! You must mean a Harley edition pick-up truck, not a motorcycle.

Thanks. The copy of the order they sent me had a Priority Code 12. We'll see what happens in January.

Yes. That just illustrates the problems in Ford's allocation system. It's broken.

How else can you explain one San Antonio dealer with 11 confirmed Bullitt Mustangs on the way for stock, and individuals who ordered on Order Bank opening day or before still waiting for a VIN?

It's a wonder there are as many Ford dealers as there are.

It's an interesting system. I was browsing FordDirect yesterday and saw Bullitts listed for three other local dealers. I assume those wouldn't be cars ordered for customers.

I had a "hidden hitch" installed on one of my cars once. You could barely see it, as it had a black plug that was flush with the rear of the car. You can hide all the hitch stuff if it's done right, so ask for some pics of previous installs and make a choice from there. And yes, I ride too. A low profile naked bike that has bucket loads of power. Not much wonder I like the Bullitt!

Lol! What ya got? A Ducati?

Me I'm a low-power dude. Right now I am just rebuilding my "re-entry rider" fleet. I've got a (1) CB250 Nighthawk, and am now looking for a (2) 250cc class dual, and finally a (3) super-slab capable bike like an 883 Sportster or maybe one of the new Triumph retro bikes or even the CB750 Nighthawk.

Thanks for the info on the trailer hitch. I still got some research to do!

Mike

when I bought a brand new Mustang 5.0 in 1979 I had a hitch put on it, they did a great job, the hitch came out and up from under the rear valance, I towed a 19ft Kona jet boat on a tandem trailer all up and down the west coast! no problems.

bikes? several HD's, FLHT bagger, 97' Heritage Springer, 91' FXR custom

Hidden Hitch

So I am wondering if this hitch will fit the Bullitt.

Thoughts?

Something like that would do the trick quite nicely. All tucked under and hidden away. You'd barely know it was there. And as a side note, to me Triumphs are the most beautiful bikes ever made (and the best handling, although I don't own one) old and new. When you look at an old Bonneville or a new Speed Triple, it's hard to come close to the overall design of these bikes. Well, maybe a Ducati................
