Yes. It's called the bullitt and you can read about it here.

It will have 312hp and arrive next January in dark highland green and black.
You will find many members in the threads in the link above that share your desire for Ford to fill the gap between the gt 500 and the gt with 350-400hp.

My thought is you won't see anything to fill the gap.
I think the new horsepower wars are going to end just like they ended in the early 70's.
Rising gas prices (plus the need to run more costly premium gas), combined with higher emission standards, etc. are causing both automakers and purchasers to re-think high horsepower engines.
In Ford's case- they are still trying to survive. Putting a 400hp engine into a mustang is not going to solve Ford's financial woes. So I don't think they are too concerned with filling the "gap".
If you want 400hp you're gonna have to boost it yourself.

The thing that ****es me off is that Ford never competed in the horsepower wars, short of the ultra-expensive low production Shelby GT500, Ford hasn't stepped up. And the biggest problem I have with is that if future emissions and fuel milage standards kill the horsepower war, at least the GM and Dodge people will have some large, powerful motors to play with for years to come. While we're stuck with the small, in-efficient mods..

I agree Ford never really competed and that LT1 Camaro sure looked like a sweet alternative around 92 or 93 but I stuck with the blue oval. Now that 2008/2009 Camaro looks killer ( styling and body) and expect it to have Z06 power as an option. That means 450 to 500 hp. A stock mustang at 300 hp is ok but a stock Mustang with 400 hp would be soooo much better. A stock stang with 400 hp and a sticker less than 35K would be the greatest. We could call it ...wait hold on ..we could ..possibly ...call it the Mustang GT! I mean **** FORD stroke her a little...add heads, exhaust, a chip lighten the weight by about 500 pounds and there about 70 to 85 hp right there.

How so? The mod motor does pretty good on gas, if you dont driv eit like abat out of hell, it can get upwards of 28+ mpg (thats real world experience) - Driven fairly aggressive it knocks down 21-22 mpg, driven like its stolen it gets 17-18 mpg.
Or are you talking in terms of HP? People seem to forget its a small motor in a fairly mild state of tune, by comparison GM's engines are nearly 100 cubic inches larger.
As for potential, the 3v 4.6 is capable of 100 hp/liter (the heads can support just under 500hp unported (235 cfm @ .500 - 235 cfm x 0.257 x 8 = 483 hp) (Livernois Motorsports has stage III heads flowing 300 cfm which would make them capable of supporting 600 hp)
Now, the real hold up is emmissions and where you want the torque to be accessible at, just about every manufacturer is producing nearly the same torque/liter (which is a more accurate way to asses how good an engine is) they just pick a different spot in the rev range so they can produce a target amount of work per unit of time (horsepower)
Obviously there are material constraints as well, with the stock 3v heads, a 4.6 can theoretically produce 480+ hp, but it wouldn't last very long and would probably be miserable to drive and suck down fuel like an alcoholic locked in an ABC store over the weekend. (if the engine produced 320 ft/lbs. at 8000 rpm, it would indeed produce 480 hp - ft/lbs x RPM/5252 = HP).
Now if you say packaging is a problem, then thats more or less true, if say, you were gonna convert a Lotus Elise to V8 power. The 3v 4.6 is a wide motor (but pretty short) and actually doesnt weigh all that much (20 pounds lighter than the LSx engines, fully dressed)
What Ford needs (and they are doing this with the Boss motors) is more displacement to put them in the game.
And for a bit of an apples to apples comparison GM needs 5.3 liters to make 300 hp compared to Ford's 4.6 liters to make 300 hp.
