Latest Boss Rumor

Might as well get a thread started in here...

I have a friend with ties to SVT (indirectly) and the most recent update I have is that Ford doesn't feel that they have an engine suitable for a Boss variant yet, and that it likely won't happen for some while. Originally the plans were to have one out in 08 (old news) but it looks as if best case scenario it will be pushed back and worst case cancelled altogether.

I personally have been waiting for a Boss since 04. This stinks.

As to the validity of the information; I would call it 50/50. FWIW...

Does It Matter

Until they make a SE mustangs that I can go to the dealer and order at MSL does it really matter? Even if they make a BOSS it will be impossible to buy one unless you have unlimited disposable income.

More than likely it will be a Mach 1 and not a Bullitt because of all the legalities. (which have been beat to death on here)

StangNut, haven't you heard, the Bullitt is back for 2008. Just announced today. I guess Ford is paying out the wazoo to get the name again. Hope they pay for Steve McQueen's image again. Now, if I could just get the theme song from the movie on my phone.

I think a lot of people are getting the engine family BOSS and CAR S/E confused.

Originally there was a plan in place to have a BOSS mustang.
I'm sure there still is.

It's easier for ford to have a tape/stripe package S/E as it doesn't cost as much.

I would have NO doubts though, that it would be past 09... if not into the redesign and make USE of the BOSS motors.

I just hope they allow like Dodge... the lower displacement BOSS motors for the masses (5.8) and the larger ones (6.2+) for the S/E types.
Or at least have the 5.4 in the GT as an option. (3v 5.4L with 375hp would be gravy)

BULLITT would be best with this S197 body style (67-68)...
Not too much effort to make it look good.

Boss Mustangs will come in with the redesign early 2009.(More Muscular)
BOSS is the name synonymous with head to head competition with
Camaro (2010 Z/28 & 2010 Challenger T/A) ...So Ford will wait to see the
Boss motors (5.8/6.2) reliability in the upcoming 2008 F-Series trucks.

I think we'll see a Lincoln coupe and production (Fairlane) people hauler in January. Also a Bronco.
The Bullitt may bow at SEMA

I think, going off of what Ford did this past spring with the GT-H, I think they plan on showing the Bullitt at the New York Auto Show in April 2007. This way, it gives them a new model to introduce at that show. One can only hope we don't have to wait any longer that this.

Start of 2007 SEMA show. I agree with Jeff. I wouldn't expect to see the new Bullitt until either the Detroit or New York auto shows in early 2007 (~1 year out from production)

So SEMA starts Oct 31st. Has a car ever been announced at SEMA?

If I remember right, didnt some high up Ford guy say they'd have the answer to the Camaro at one of the big auto shows next year?

The Ford Guys at the All Ford Southwest Show in Phoenix said Yesterday that the Boss is still alive and that it will be sporting a 5.4! They said BIG BLOCK!! They said nothing of the Bullitt but were talking like the Boss is going to be a reality. They are the ones driving the Grass Roots Shelby Tour around.. Don't know what to think?

No. I hadn't heard that. When/where did they announce it? (EDIT: Found it on Stangsunleashed. Thanks. Very disappointing the first real SE will be a Bullitt)

The Bullitt just never seemed like a good choice for the S197 to me since most of the body looks more like a 65/66. It would take a LOT of bodywork to make the trunk area look like a 67/68. Not to mention the roofline.

The aftermarket is going to have to make some 67/68 style 1/4 window louvers also.
