I seriously doubt that statement. Especially if Shelby is limited to one - two years

Close but no cigar.
It appears to be in Osage, Iowa. Right next door.

Local dealer's policy here in VA Beach $5K ADM on the Shelby GT. Yet another local dealer said he would sale Shelby GTs for MSRP. So if you want one, just shop around (just like folks did for the GT 500).

Either way it's too rich for my blood.

Yeah! My children really don't need college money. They would be happier if their dad were happier right?

True story. I took my 5 year daughter to the local Ford dealer to look at the stangs. I told her that I thought that a Vista Blue GT/CS looked nice.

She said, and I quote:
I think you should think more about that silver mustang with blue stripes
From the mouth of babes.

I like Shelby and the stuff he has done in the past but the price of the Shelby GT is way way way out of line for a car that has very little preformance gains over the GT.

Shelby has always said high preformance to me and the Shelby GT is not living up to the standers of the name.

Now the GT500 that is another story.

Consider this, a 1965 Mustang with the 271hp motor was a little over $3000, a 1965 gt350 (306hp) was $4500. That doesnt sound like much money but the the Shelby was 1 1/2 times more money. If you take the mustang list price of 27000 x 1.5= $40500. What mods were done on the original? A 35 hp increase, better handling, a weight loss (the Shelby GT is a spare tire delete)and scoops(I know they had a purpose and it bums me out that know one could come up with a good reason on the new car). I think the new car is close to the original concept.

I showed this ad to my coworker (a serious ebayer) and he totally flipped out!

He filed a complaint with eBay about this ad - he says it's a violation of their TOS (terms of service) to sell an intangible thing like ADM and not the whole car, thereby depriving ebay of their percentage.

He also said that the seller has never sold any other cars before, just some "collectible crap."

I'm curious to see if the ad gets pulled.

I agree with you up to a point. I made a very similiar arguement on here when it was thought that the Shelby GT had 325 hp and would cost $35K. I thought that the price seemed a little high but reasonable. But those 2 numbers have since changed. Now it's 319hp and $37-40K (depending on options).

As you stated, back in 1965 there was a 35hp (+12%) increase over the K code (271hp motor). This was not a common option. Most GTs had the 225hp version. But for arguement's sake I'll use the K code #s. In summary:

1965: 1.5 times more money gave you 35hp (12% more), plus handling mods
2007: 1.5 times more money gives you 19hp (6% more), plus handling mods

So to stay inline with the 1965 price to power ratios, The new Shelby GT would need to have ~335hp.

Regardless it a good concept, and I'm confident they will easily sale every Shelby GT they produce.

I sell cars on Ebay for a living. That technically is a violation. Its the same as charging a fortune for shipping and selling the item for next to nothing like a lot of toys/electronics are done. I still don't understand the facination with the SGT though.

37-40 grand for this car is absurd and unjustified. 40K buys a brand new C6 that will clean the Shelby GT in every category across the board.

With two less seats and virtually no trunk room. Yep, there is more to some cars than just the performance for me. Plus the styling is so much better with the Mustang than the Corvette to me. I do love corvettes as well but they don't hold a candle (my opinion) when compared to the current Mustang.

Choices can be a great thing, that is why we are all not driving econobox Yugos...

Although I agree with all of the opinions here...

Who here can honestly say that if they knew they could flip the car and make an extra $5,000-$10,000 over invoice to some moron on eBay with a fat check they wouldn't do it? They're not really scammer dealers, they're greedy and smart dealers.

Ebay - The super expressway to the moron world.

Heh, I've owned 6 GT's, an rx7TT and restored 11 sec 60's cars(and a few restored 240-260z's), bikes, boats, ect...I have driven about 300 05+ GT's though(I take a different one to lunch every other day). The V6 'idea' I had last year(my 28th car) was to keep me from dumping thousands in another GT...Being that the Shelby is going to be this incredibly dull and uninspired(I was going to buy one originally), I just ordered another GT. I was in the process of buying a MB C350 Sport last month so I had something I felt like washing and thankfully I drove it for a few days before closing and was already getting used to it. Funny enough the V6 was much more fun to putt around in. I drive so many different cars in a day(since I can take any used car any time I want) these days I really pretty much was getting sick of everything. It was actually seeing a GT500 nose on the GT's that suddenly got me in the mood again, so I ordered myself another car the same day. Considering the price I got on the V6's lease with .5% lease factor(a one month special that will surely never be done again, its 7.9% now), I'm putting my car up on the lot. If I get roughly $1k off KBB retail for it with 8k miles which should be easy to get, the car will literally have been free for me to drive for a year as I will get just about every dime back....

I was about to give up on driving Mustangs all together and get a 'grown-up' car, and suddenly I got a little inspired. Will be interesting to see if I keep it for more then a year though. I think after spending enough time around them, the good ol' GT seems like it is by far the best car for the money for the S-197, now and in the future. I did get to drive a GT500 a few days ago(I didn't drive it hard at all though and it was rush hour anyway) as we sold one to another dealership and is powerful as it is, it feels like the battlewagon that the 03/04 cobra convertibles were. My personal favorite is the S281E(I have sold 3 of them), but it is ungodly expensive at 81k with the glass roof and chrome wheels. Feels like a GT500 made out of carbon fiber although with the glass roof it is only a little lighter, but the suspension is so much better and its not nose-heavy so it feels razor-sharp in comparison. The SE's of the last body style just seemed much more magical as the S-195 was such a lousy platform. Again, as fast as the 03/04 cobras were, they were friggin heavy(and too powerful for the platform), but still a blast as nothing was like it in 2003. The best matched drivetrain to platform of all of the -195's was the Mach 1. The Bullitt was what the old GT should of been, I sold my brother one and I'm glad my he still has it as its fun to run around every now and then. Still drives me nuts to this day that most of the special parts were recycled as Ford never seems to leave non-SVT SE parts alone for just one model. The S-GT already stole CS parts in less then one year, big surprise. You still got a ton of goodies in the Bulllitt/Mach 1 for the price difference, it was easilly affordable for a GT buyer and more a matter of being able to find one.

Will be a new record set though, this V6 I have now will be the longest I have ever owned a car at 13 months(not including 2-3 year restoration jobs) :P Not to mention I never really got over the Chrysler version of Shelby's lettering on the newer cars as being another pet peeve carried from the 80s 'Shelby' Charger(omni platform). A couple parts-department mod packs, a tacky billet grille, and stickum stripes just really doesn't do it for me. I even spec'd the orders of our two Shelby GT's sans stripes because a professional vinyl installer does a much better job if someone wants one. No customer ever ordered one so we just went ahead and filled the allotment so our other store doesn't gobble up our 2. It just seems that 0 effort was put into it to use one single original part. The only non-ford part on the Hertz cars was the hood and it got deleted. Everything else is right off the shelf.

Dealers will definitely get over sticker for these cars, and I will surely put them on ebay as soon as the PDI's are done as we turn on the lights every morning intending to make money, but personally I don't even see value at MSRP.

You don't see the value or the love affair w/ the shelby's either because you don't care about the history, or you simply are ignorant of the history and signficance the shelby name carrries, esp w/ mustangs and ford.

that said, nice car collections you've had IF it were practical I'd own a v6 stang as a daily driver, but in the midwest its nice to have something that can handle crappy road conditions as well as have some room to haul things if needed.

It snowed Sunday so I took a used Range Rover home.

Believe me I know the true heritage of the original Shelby cars and the difference between the originals and simply putting stickers on something. I guess when you commit your working hours to putting Fords on America's roads for a living its a little more annoying to see parts bin parts and stickers. Even the naked upfit package seems extremely expensive before the Shelby stuff even gets stuck on it. A GT with a basic interior for $30K before it goes to Shelby? Here's one of them that I ordered, this thing is going to be dancing on $40k for 325 hp:

Since I would pay MSRP even working at the dealer for that car above(and there is no way I would do anthing but blue stripes on it 'ruining' its originality as frankly the silver stripes are just plain stupid on a shelby), the car I ordered has all the interior goodies and with the rebate I will get it for about 26K on D-plan. Before it hits $30 it will be lowered with big brakes, some tuning work and a GT500 nose, which is guaranteed to stop traffic. So I kinda chose the 'normal' GT. If for $40k it came with proper painted stripes, louvered side glass, all original facias, wood console and wheel, wheels not out of the parts-counter catalog(some halibrand cobra III's or even AR 'real' torx thrusts would be fine), a proper mesh grille with pony in the corner, a roll bar with rear seat delete, the heated seats and stitched dash, and some real horsepower I might of gone for it. A Shelby in its heydey was easily recognized in traffic, the new car will probably take a Mustang expert to even notice it on the road.
