Shaker Hood Scoop...

I went to a local Ford dealer in the Seattle area today and drove a Vista Blue, 5 speed GT/CS. One option that they had on the car was what appeared to be a functioning "Shaker Hood Scoop". I wasn't very impressed with how the hood is cut out to facilitate the scoop. It has this cheesy black plastic edge liner that go's around the cut out. Is this option an authentic GT/CS option? I noticed they had the "shaker" scoop on a GT as well.

No, It is not a factory order option... It's a dealer install item.

It's not a Ford item. More than likely it's made by CDC, it's a popular mod.

Oh man! You better watch out... You may have angered the Shaker Committee! The next thing you know you will be facing down a Master Shaker!

Cheesy?

You're kidding, right?

Unless they are using something else... because the CDC kit is far from cheesy and unimpressive.

89Trooper, maybe chessy was a bit little harsh... It just looked like an "add-on" to me and I'm not a big fan of changing original equipment. Now I didn't say that it was unimpressive. I drove the car and it was very responsive. Does the shaker scoop contribute to increased horsepower?

Just giving you a hard time.

You are correct... you didn't say "unimpressive"... but you did say "I wasn't very impressed".

Most say that it does not add any HP. But, I know that it DOES pull harder in 3rd gear than it used to - but then you are going pretty fast and are starting to get some forced air in the scoop.

But check out this:

That's just little blips of the throttle... imagine the air being sucked in at wide open throttle going 80 MPH!

89Trooper,
Cool video of air flow demonstration... Was wondering, can you remove the stock air cleaner box and add the cool air intake (K&N) type? or is that not feasible or necessary with the shaker hood scoop set up?

Now who in the world would want to do that??

Yes, you can... but you'll lose all suction because it won't be a closed system any more.

Bill will be here to show you his soon, I'm sure... or Daryl... or Leo...

89Trooper and Leo, thanks for the info. I keep asking questions and I'll be able to build a GT/CS from scratch! Leo, nice car dude... So, with the CAI installed, what type of horsepower increase are you experiencing?

Your welcome and thanks. K&N advertises 15hp gain. Truth be told it wasn't until I got my Bamachips tune that I really felt a difference.

Sorry guys, a little late to this thread, but back on the ring...

Here's the same 'add-on' trim ring on Saleen/Parnelli Jones car that's being sold through Saleen Dealers.

Looks the same as my CDC ring.

You can use it with a C&L intake also.

Man, I keep reading these threads I'll never sleep tonight! It's been years since I've owner a Mustang and I'm really getting anxious to buy/order a GT/CS. Anyone want or know of someone that wants to buy my 2003 Honda S2000 Convertible? Only has 19000 miles on it. I'm 5 months short of a 4 year lease but can't get any dealers to pay me out of it with out rolling the residual into a new GT/CS... And I really don't want to do that.

The shaker hp can't be measured on a dyno. The shaker works only from air being forced in its not a cai or super/turbo-charger which sucks air into the system

But the engine does suck air from the scoop. I made that video awhile back because people said there were too many turns in the duct work for it to force air into the engine. That may be true, but we now know for a fact that air makes it from the opening of the scoop into the engine... probably from a combination of forcing and sucking, depending on speed.

I'm pretty happy without a hood scoop.
