Tail of the Dragon
Wow, wow and more wow.
I just got back from my sisters place near Brevard, NC. It is about 2 hours from the Tail of the Dragon on highway 129 in Tenn. For those that don't already know, there are 318 curves in an 11 mile stretch of beautiful mountain highway.
We took off from my sister's house and drove some "warm up" roads on our way there. My brother-in-law is a motorcycle fanatic and knows the best roads in that area. I quickly became very impressed with my virtually stock GT500. It handled the curves quite well. We got to the Tail and started right in. My first pass down and back was actually pretty easy to go pretty fast. The car was predictable and stable. The second trip through I hit it pretty hard. Still very predictable and stable. One of my brothers was in an S2000 and was not able to pull away from me. I am sure I sacrificed a few months of service from my brakes and my tires in 44 miles of driving.
Ford did a hell of a job with this car. It was quiet and comfortable for the 9 hours from my house NC. Then it turned into a beast of a performance car when needed.
I obviously did not take any pics (I was too busy keeping both hands on the wheel). There are some professional photographers that take them there. I am planning to order some pics and I'll post them when I get them. If you want to search for them:

Search for 10/6/08, then cars. You will have to look through the pics. There are several. The US129photos.com has 4 sets of pics with my car. The zeefoto only has one. When I wrote this, killboy.com did not have any pics from that day up.

Cool, that looks like fun.
It's fun to drive a car that has so much power for such little effort...only a downshift away.
Was your car running very hot after all of your trips?

Of course it was a little hot, but, not bad. The brakes actually smoked a little at the end of my hottest run.
