Sorry I like performance cars and unless you want to give me 100K to buy a GT, Chevy(C6) is the only way to go if you want an affordable all around performance car.

First of all, grow up. I think everyone here loves stangs, so its tough to believe that someone whos been here that long is a poser. Secondly, it doesn't make a whole lotta sense to buy a car because you feel some sorta obligation to buy a certain make or model when you know that there is a car out there that you would enjoy more.

Im not saying that the C6 is better than the GT500 in every way, as people have already said its apples to oranges. But if youre looking for a weekend toy and dont need the extra 2 seats (or 700lbs+), then it would be pretty dumb to pay 50 or 60k, or even 40 for that matter for the Shelby.

Sensible Post! I consider my 05 GT a 2 seater. I am 6'2" and only a child seat will fit behind me. You cannot sit a normal sized adult in the back comfortably. I've used the back seat once and it wasn't very comfortable for my friend Blake riding in the back. My girlfriend was in the front and her legs were almost touching the dashboard, while my friend Blake's legs are just touching the rear of the front seat. Take into account that my friend Blake is a short guy, maybe 5'3" on a good day. Yes in a pinch you cant sit people in the back, which isn't an option in the Vette, but I wouldn't advise it. I totally agree that if you are looking for a 2 seater, the Shelby is overpriced if you consider the caliber of the competition.

So long? Since what, like, 2004? Big deal. Tons of new mustang "enthusiasts" materialized after the 2005 redesign. People who woundn't touch a New Edge or fox-body with a ten foot pole. People who say stuff like "if I was to buy a new car right now it would be a C6. It's an amazing machine!". As was said before, there's a line in the sand. Feel free to cross into the Chevy camp, but don't call yourself a true "Mustang enthusiast if you do."

Seacrest, out.

I've always been a Mustang "enthusiast". It was instilled in me as a kid, since my dad has owned a few in the past. Again, I am a car enthusiast. I enjoy cars, the Mustang obviously being one of them. Sorry I am not a brand loyalst and will buy a Mustang no matter what. I've got a friend whom changes cars like underwear whom has three Mustangs(All race cars). I guess since he recently bought a 911 Turbo to replace his CTSV, he isn't a Mustang enthusiast as well Ford loves people like you, but IMO the loyalst mentality is why Ford is hurting and makes inferior cars to the imports. My hard earned money demands the best(that's affordable relative to my budget) and like I stated above the GT500 doesn't fit those needs. Now the Vette has it's flaws, but for the money you cannot beat it.

Who gave you the power to decide who is a true "Mustang enthusiast"?? Sounds like it was a self given proclamation, I can only imagine what else you tell yourself I have been around cars all my life and I know one thing, cars are about bringing people together, and all the true Mustang enthusiasts I have met, love all cars, especially the cars such as the corvette, that through competition have constantly made Ford create better and better mustangs. Grow up my friend and go outside and play with your 68 and dont make any more proclamations about what a true Mustang Enthusiast thinks and believes.

Anyways, pretty good GT500 numbers, perhaps with a little weight reduction and some tuning, we can see this car beat a C6.

Things arent always black and white, and being a mustang enthusiast is not exclusive. You dont have to hate everything else just cause you like mustangs. If you have to hate chevys, then I guess you gotta hate chryslers too. I guess youd never be seen in a viper then would you? Nevermind the thought of owning a piece of foreign trash like a Ferrari.

I'm sure Ford is well versed on the detrimental effects of weight on the performance of a vehicle, however given the current state of the american automobile industry, the insurance industry and the government in general. This is what your looking at; cars built like tanks using relatively inexepnsive materials in an effort to meet a government mandates as well as protect themselves from BS lawsuits at a pricepoint that is acceptable for a car/truck in that particular segment without breaking the bank.

Now if we are willing to screw our fellow amaricans by demanding slave wages and/or willing to accept "hencho in mexico" we can have a 3200 lbs 500 plus HP GT 500 fully loaded with ultra modern suspension at a price thats easy to swallow.

Gentleman,

First, thank you all for the kind thoughts about my "service" in Iraq. As if my screen name doesn't give it away, I am no longer in the military, although I am very proud of the years I served. AF Blue, I was an Air Force guy like you! I am currently over here in a "Private Security Capacity"....so I protect private assets for American Companies. Right now we are destroying some of the ordinance that the insurgents are using to make IED's....so I am still fighting the good fight!

To stay on topic, I am surprised my first post caused so much of a stir....but it is a pleasant surprise. All of you seem to be able to have a debate in a very logical and well thought out manner. For that, I salute all of you.

I simply believe that this car has tremendous performance right off the showroom floor, especially for its price point. And, lets not forget, it is a version of everyone's favorite Pony car! (I am on the mustang forums right?) As far as the ZO6 comment, I wasn't kidding. We already know there is a TON of power untapped in this motor and HTT already said they could have gotten the car to pull closer to 1G but it was too hard on the tires. (I think I am correct about that...?)

Anyway, I have driven Vettes and some of the others, but having owned an 05' gt, and knowing what it can do, just tells me this thing is going to be unstoppable as far as the performance per dollar value goes.

By the way, the comment about 500 hp being more than is needed on the street is true....but as some friends of mine are fond of saying "If you are going to get in a gunfight, there are 2 rules.....first, have a gun. Second, BRING ENOUGH GUN!!!!!!!"

See y'all later!

John

Ford Motor Co. is cutting jobs and closing U.S. factories, they are upgrading and expanding 3 Mexicam plants. Assembly plants in Cautitlan and Hermosillo and an engine plant in Chihuahua. They are outsourcing jobs and cutting 30,000 jobs by 2012 and closing 14 North American factories total. Bean counters say " It is absolutely critical that we do more in Mexico. We pay way too much for labor in the U.S," What can I say?? Where is Fords loyalty to us?? This was in todays paper. Like the old song says "Everybody's got a hungry heart" Draw your own conclusions !! "Si Senoir"

I just read that last night. I thought that was interesting also. Gotta wonder if that were a typo or if they are planning to evolve the Shelby along with the evolution into the next body style change. I, personally, doubt the Shelby will run that long. I do think the next SVT Truck will be a Shelby badged truck.

I just thumbed through the article at the store - and get a kick out of them running a 12.5 WITH the traction control on.

Weight aside, this thing will definitely haul the mail with just a few tweaks.....

TODAY THEY CALL IT DRIFTING! THE FORD AND CHEVY THING NO ONE WILL EVER WIN BUT THE DRAMA IS WHAT MAKES IT. NO MATTER WHAT SIDE YOUR ON. HOPE IT GO'S ON FOR EVER THAT WAY WILL ALWAYS HAVE MUSTANGS, CORVETTES AND VIPERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
