How many 09' GT500s will ford make?

Sorry if I'm out of the loop but I'm curious to how many GT500s Ford plans to build for 09'. Has Ford confirmed any info? I wonder if they will match the production of 07' and 08'. After seeing the spy shots of the new 10' GT500, I'm leaning towards purchasing an 07-09 example.

Also are there any actual differences between the 07' and 08' car besides the obvious new for 08' options and colors? Also are there any problems areas about the car I should know before purchasing? I think I may be picking up a new Cobra to join my 03' in the stable. Any information you guys can provide would be excellent, thanks in advance.

The '09s will be by far the lowest production run when compared to the '07s and '08s. This is because '09 Mustang production will end in December '08 as the '10s will be introduced in early '09.

There were 10k+ '07s made. Speculation has the '08s pegged around 8k (we will know in the next couple of weeks what the official number is). The '09s will be produced for about one-half the normal yearly production run so I'm going to guess about 4k will be made.

Also are there any actual differences between the 07' and 08' car besides the obvious new for 08' options and colors?

The harmonic balancer was changed for '08. The '07 weighs in around 26 pounds, the '08 around 10 pounds, give or take. A lot of '07 owners are "upgrading" to the '08 damper.

Although the engine specs are identical for both years, the '08s produce slightly more hp. The '07s come in around 410 - 425 rwhp while most '08 owners are seeing 430 - 440 rwhp. No one seems to know why. I'm one of the lucky ones. My '08 dynoed bone stock with 8k miles and the original paper air filter at 461 rwhp.

As far as problems, there is a plethora of info about clutch/transmission problems out there. The '07s and early '08s are affected.

Last word I had from Ford was 3,000 GT500's planned for 2009. Somehow, we managed to get three of them at the dealership I work for. 1st one sold quick at MSRP. 2nd one arrives in two weeks (alloy coupe with silver stripes). 3rd one scheduled & serialized, but not built yet (vista blue coupe with white stripes).

All the markups are gone on GT500's, so this is a great time to buy one for a good price just about anywhere.

Thanks for your help guys. I am itching to pull the trigger on an 09'....yet with the economy in the toilet i'm trying to be very careful............ Alloy w/ silver is my ultimate favorite combo! I once saw a Ford GT with that combo and fell in love with it! I think my decision to buy new or low mile used will be based on how good of a price I can get on an 09'.

I think MSRP can be discounted on Bullitts and GT500s. My local dealers seem to also have 08 Shelby GT's which can be bought for sticker or less. Apparently Mustang sales have really tanked -- economy, fuel economy perception and/or '10 model expectation. If you want one of these it seems like now is the time to go for it.

Get your Ford Performance Group / SVT Certificate by calling 800.367.3788, Menu 1 option. The cost is $45. They will require your VIN. If you ask, they will give you your numbers over the phone. It became available for the 2008 GT500 on Sept. 25, 2008.

Wille (or anyone else who knows)

Have they ever come out with a break down on all production Mustangs in '07? I saw a listing that just said the # by color, but nothing listing a complete breakdown (coupes, verts, interior color, etc..) Thanks!

I don't think the Ford GTs came in Alloy Grey, as it was a color introduced on Mustangs after the GT production stopped. Perhaps you were thinking of Tungsten?

I hope that Ford gives us the specs soon on the 10' GT before I make a decision to buy a GT500. I'm starting to wonder how much better in terms of performance the next gen GT and GT500 will be over the current model. It seems like in years past that the next gen GT is almost equal to the previous gen Cobra........ a 99' GT runs right up there with the 96-98 Cobras and the current 05-09 GT runs with the N/A Cobras of 99-01 and 03-04 Mach1. I don't wanna feel like the guys who bought 01' Cobras then got smacked in the face with the 03-04 Cobras....

As far as the GT500 goes the sky is the limit. They could give the car a quick tune and put out 600hp! I'm hoping that it has the chassis tuning of the current KR model. I love the GT500 but it doesn't handle as well as I'd hoped it would.

Those of you who own these cars what would you do if you where in my situation? Wait for the 10' model and hope not to get raped by ADMs or should I "settle" for a current gen and use the saved money for mods.......

So far my local dealers won't dip below MSRP on them in fact some are still asking for $5000 ADMs. I'm thinking ebay is the way to go on a new one. This is such a big decision for me and I am truly conflicted on what to do.

Yes, I think it was Tungsten with silver stripes. I remember it was at Tasca Ford in RI. It was an 06' car and I think it was an SE, not sure if they made SEs for these cars but I think it was a silver edition or anniversary.....but all I remember is that it was hot and I have been in love with that color combo ever since.

If you read the 2010 forum, the current thinking suggests the GT engine will be carryover until 2011, when a 5.0L engine would be introducted. One can presume the GT500 will go up in power, but I suspect not until then.

Unless you regularly use your car for competition purposes, the handling improvements might not readily be seen. The good thing is that you can "tighten up" the GT500 with aftermarket components.

I don't own a GT500, but if I were in that market, I would buy the current generation GT500 and judiciously choose modifications, unless I really, really liked the styling change, then I would wait. However, based on the current levels of popularity (it's been about 2 years before GT500s started showing up more regularly at MSRP), you might be waiting a bit.

Yes, it is a beautiful color (I am biased ). Alloy is a dark color. Take a look at Five Oh B's car if you want to see it.

I agree with Tony. The currrent car (I do own one) is so sweet. Settling will not be an issue. Ford will not make big enough changes to justify the extra cost. You would likely have to pay $5k in ADM and price increase, you could buy a lot of mods with that difference. Of course, if you wait, the '10s will come down eventually as well.

I don't compete with mine. It is a wicked fast street cruiser. I appreciate the slightly softer suspension since I am not trying to shave seconds off my lap times.
