GT500 - 'SVT' de-badged? edit: NOT TRUE
#1
I saw this on my local SVTOA web site. Tell me it can't be true!
What do you think? Can this happen? It would certainly lower the value to me as a consumer.
Jim
I will say on the record that when the Ford Shelby GT-500 models appear on public roads later this year, you will not find the letters "SVT" on the car ANYWHERE. Not on the center caps, not on the dashboard. It will be marketed as the FORD Shelby GT-500 and NOT as an SVT product. The car will be offered for the 2007 and 2008 model years.

I think someone spoke too soon.
Some of our fellow Mustang enthusiasts sometimes have a difficult time separating fact from fiction.

Even if SVT were "shut down", I can't see Ford removing the badging. It would not give them any advantage. They still own the SVT moniker, the car is already designed and ready for production. Taking them off would only cost more to get everything changed.

This is absolutely 100% false. This is a response from a "higher up" at SVT:
SVT badging on GT500 has not changed. It will be on wheel centercaps, seats, rocker scuffplates, cluster and shift light.
Also: Some contract employees supporting SVT marketing were let go as part of last week's restructuring. We are consolidating all performance related marketing activities to have a more holistic approach to racing, high performance products, and aftermarket performance parts business.

One would think common sense would be the first logical approach before pessimism is selected. It is beyond comprehension why negative news are so appealing.

With Ford taking a 30000 employee cut, SVT will take a hit too, contrary to what some here say.

George, there wasn't anything appealing about this information from my my side, more like a refusal to even want to consider it - but there is was. I agree that some take pride in spreading half-truths for 'excitement' - believe me that was never my intent.
I posted this trying to get to the truth - which I believe 100% we have just done - in less that 24 hours! - This is a great site. I am delighted to pass this final news around as well.
Thanks Brad ! I am VERY happy with your news.
Jim
PS: I will edit the topic thread title as well.

I think SVT would help boost the image of the Ford brand. It would be worth the cost to have them work on making existing cars like the Fusion even better just like SRT for Dodge. Even if people don't buy that SVT model it helps generate more interest in the car and more overall sale.
