For all you guys who keep complaining about Barrett Jackson being responsible for driving up the prices on classic cars -- did you ever stop to consider what the term "what it is worth" actually means?
Well, I guess not. Perhaps I was consumed by the thought of ruthless used car salesmen trying to increase their commissions and the possibility of planted potential bidders doing their part to increase "what it is worth".

Pardon my unfounded suspicions.

Definitely blame salesmen when they pull that crap, or even the people who actually shell out the money -- just not Barrett Jackson. That is all I was trying to say.

The dealer I purchased my GT at, told me they have 2 Shelby's allocated and both are selling for 62k and 67k respectively so far, they simply opened up at MSRP and started taking offers with a credit check.

While I agree this is a "stunt" and I hope it backfires on Ford, don't think for one second that nearly all dealers will use the selling price as a "barometer" for setting their asking price for the GT500...Greedy Dealers

I also believe that for anyone willing to be patient and not have to be the first person to have one, will be able to purchase one at MSRP or less....at least by 2008
I don't really agree with you about getting one for msrp or less in one year.
Especially since quite a few regualr gt's and v6 are still being marked up a year later
if people are still paying over sticker for the base models, what makes you think the shelby won't be marked up for the same amount of time or longer?

Basically a first year Shelby is not going to be something the average car guy can touch. Just wait until 2008.

The Mustang GT that I bought is good e'nuff for me....... I bought the car to drive, and if I had a Shelby it would be just taking up space in a garage for nice days only. If I had $$$ to burn, then I would probably own one (with a few other toys), but practicality rules for this blue collar guy.

I didn't say that there wouldn't be dealers marking them up during the entire production run, some will mark-up every GT500 just as they do GT's. The intention of my comment was that it will be possible at least by 2008 to find some dealers selling the car for MSRP after the initial buzz has abated.

My guess would be closer to $500,000.00 as it said it would be one of the first build (low Vin#). I could even see it go for $750,000.00.

I've seen this auction before and what some people will pay is ridiculus for some of the cars I've seen.
HAHAHAHAHA...Man I got a good laugh. Some of you guys are crazy. #1 it's a Ford Mustang, not an Enzo. People aren't bidding on an original Shelby Cobra here gentlement. This is a production car which will be massed produced to the public. While it will be rare and in high demand at first, it won't command that kind of money. I would say a fair estimate would be 30-50K over sticker. Anything over that is just some rich dude exquisite feeling release of liquid waste product away money.

I am going to be the first to say it, but the 07 GT500 Shelby is one of the most over-hyped future vehicles in years.

You're all about to find out. It won't be long until the auction so even though its cool to speculate we will all finally see what it gets. Depends on the "frrling" that particular day and how the auctioneers hype it and excite the crowd, expect some deep pocketed big money. The high rollers will be there. Too rich for my blood. It will go for >100K
