Seriously! The hood, bumper, and vents are soooo tight, but on the back the stripes have like a qtr inch gap. What gives?

Absolutely not. The only place that grille style patch would fit is between the tail lights and since there are stripes then it does not match at all. Do I have to tell you everything? Remember, all your talents you owe to me, so use them.

I would have really wished Ford had done some effort there.
I'm a fan of the 67 Shelby GT500 (see how the taillights go right into the stripes).
1967 Mercury Cougar tail lights were used with their chrome trimming removed.
And the standard backup lights are great!
Productionwise, something like this might have easily been feasable:
