Allright, I checked to see if anyone had already reported this article, but it seems nobody so far did.
Here it is:
http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/04/26/for...r-2008-mustang/
and some more here:
http://www.stangsunleashed.com/index.php?c...rticleid=95&s=&

Don't know if it's BS or real, but it's interesting at least IMO.

Your thoughts please ?

My contact at SVT said he wasn't aware of this program, and he'd know.

While a KR would be cool, I am afraid to think how much it would cost.

I would prefer something cheaper to sit between the GT and GT500, not something even more $$.

OK, it would be interesting if they were working on an uprated car. It would be nice to have a GT500KR with the Ford GT's engine TURBOcharged, not supercharged. That would be downright crazy. Not to hijack a thread, but is SVT still "SVT" or this now called "Ford Performance?" Am I just behind the curve or what?

SVT is SVT, but they are now under the Ford Performance umbrella which includes Ford Racing and Ford Racing Performance Parts.

I believe that this is not . SVT should make a GT500KR variant if they do not want to be left in the dust.

I completely disagree. Instead of building a more powerful GT500 which will without a doubt carry an even higher price tag (not to mention dealer AMV), SVT needs to either up the power of the GT or develop a more powerful model (i.e. Mach1 or Boss) that slots between the GT and GT500 that's affordable to the mainstream Mustang buyer. The GT500 is powerful enough to take on most anything in its market segment.

I doubt there would be an even more powerful version for a 1-yr run. The costs and time to certifying that engine for a relatively small number would definitely put the price up higher. The current car is extraordinarily desirable as is, given the MSRP+ prices being charged.

they should make a gt500kr with a carbon fiber frame, door panels, trunk, spoiler, interior, bumpers, and anything possible to make it as light as possible. And it should have 550-600 hp

I doubt it, not with SVT gone.

That would be high end, pricey, and the bean counters are in charge. I don't think Ford will be spending money on a project that might not even be feasible so satisfy a small portion of potential high performance customers.

SVT is not gone, just re-organized!

I definitely agree it would be difficult to build a strong business case for producing a car higher in engine output than the GT500.

Regardless if we don't like the influence the finance people have, it is the reality of Ford's position in the market place. If people were not counting the pennies now, Ford would have a tougher time than it already is.

I'd be remarkably happy with an n/a 5.4l 3valve with strong interenals.

Please be sure and let us know when he finds out about the new K or KR prototype. Maybe somebody should send him an email.
