I have not heard of a strict limit on any Mustang we call a "SE". Where did this number come from?

If I remember correctly, we heard 9000 for the GT500s specifically.

 

From what I remember, ford said from the get-go that they will build as many as the consumers wanted and they everybody that wanted one (and could afford it) would be able to get one. I never thought the GT500 was supposed to be SE. It was basically just a renamed SVT Cobra ("just" may not be the best work, but you know what I mean).

 

There have been several instances where Ford stated a limited number of SE's would be produced. The 2001 Bullitt(6500 with 5582 made), Shelby GT(less than 10,000 with approx 6000 made) and the GT500 (opened at 6500 units) all fell into this group, plus many more. The only one they adjusted and over-produced was the GT500. And don't forget the upcoming 2008 Bullitt with a total of 7700 units. And Ford obviously exceeded the 9000 "limit" that you heard for the GT500. Upcoming Boss (1000 units). The list goes on and on.......................

My question was regarding the number 10,000 being a fixed limit. I am aware of the various numbers, but I have not seen Ford say for every Mustang feature car it would be limited to no more than 10,000.

I believe the GT500 was originally quoted at 7000 and then went to 9000.

The notable exceptions on numbers in the recent history for very low totals, however, would be the Cobra R models in 1993, 1995, and 2000.

At any rate, the business case, parts availability, and sales trends seem to play a role in the final determination.

I wouldn't call the gt500 a SE. There is the v6 then the GT and then the cobra(Gt500) any others would be SE's.

I believe that was meant as an estimated 8000 per year for three years. Ford has always said that they will build as many GT500s as customers will buy. That is why fellow posters have been saying it is ridiculous to pay for these ADM's when it is not going to be an exclusive car. The 1967 GT500 had only 2048 made, 68 followed with 1448. The shelby motor's vehicles will be the investments the GT500 are not going to return what the original shelbys did.

 

Well its dumb to by a car as an investment, so many things can effect the long term value of the car beyond the obvious, IMO, the terminators will probably be more valuable 20 or 30 years down the road because of thier percieved value and performance (terminator fans and the general commnity outside of the Ford camp consider the Shelbys to be posuer cars - even if its a baseless condemnation). Rare certainly helps, but what really fuels the price of the car (in the real world and not the drunken idiocy known as Jackson Barrett) are the dreams people fall back on when they can financially afford to purchase a bit of their lost youth.

 

Anyone know where I would be able to find the production data (non-Shelby GT 500) for 2007? Thanks ahead.

 

ya, maybe i read that wrong. either way, i wont be able to affrod one for quite some time. kinda sucks there only for the wealthy.
