yellow wrench of doom
on my way home last week stuck in traffic on I66 doing about 15 mph. I heard a thump and the wrench light on the dash came on. engine was running fine no other lights present. so I continued to the house but noticed it was shifting allot harder. I stoped for beer and when I restarted the car the light was out but still had the shifting issue. I took it to my mechanic so he could plug it in the next day. I called him later on and he said all the codes where pionting to a burnt belt in the transmission. He said when they took it for a test drive its like its missing 2nd gear. He has a a guy from the ford service center in F-burg comeing out to look at it. I know this is going to cost me. the warrenty is 5/60 and she has about 63. Anyone have an 2010 auto transmission laying around? Anyone had a simalure problem out there?
I've only had the car about 3 months. in the mean time im driveing the V10 F250 to work with no heat. man I miss my heated seats....

Man I hate to hear about tranny problems in these new cars, it always points to much money. Maybe it's nothing more than the tranny fluid needs changing. Here's hoping. Good luck.

I may be wrong here, but weren't there many problems with the Mustang's transmissions back in 2010-2011? I hope it isn't anything serious.
Good luck.

Guy doesn't know what he's talking about or you heard him wrong, there are no "belts" in the transmission.
Wait and see what the Ford tech says, but no need to go off the deep end until it is properly diagnosed.

Could be one of the zip ties
But in all seriousness i agree with the above posts. No idea what this guy means by transmission belt but it could be the shift linkage. Maybe the stop and go mightve made something come loose and now feels like second gear disappeared. Wait for the Ford guy to diagnose it but be prepared for the worst

If you're the original owner and if you've had your vehicle serviced at a dealer regularly, they may decide to be courteous and cover this under warranty.
If you are just some Joe off the street without a history at a dealer, they probably won't do anything for you.

to update if anyone is interested my mechanic and I thought it maybe covered under the 8/80 warranty. So I took it to ford dealer, he said no. he dropped the pan to diagnose the problem and he said the pan was full of mettal. so new transmission on back order for $4.000. said I could be back on the road by the end of the month.
So now im going to crack a beer and change the front brakes on the F-250 V10 i'll need to commute....
thanks to everyone who responded. if I ever get her back I'll post some pics

For less than $4K you can get a transmission shop to build yours up and it'll be better than stock. No need to throw away any more money than needed, especially when you can get better for less.
