WTF - 2011 GT Test Drive

Isn't it actually a 305? Or is it still the 302? Read that somewhere else but people can be wrong.

I test drove a GT recently and I thought it was very fast. I was surprised that it didn't scare the hell out of me, but when it squatted and I chirped the tires in second and then found myself doing 80 when I thought it was 55, I knew this car was for me.
My C4 Vette feels fast but it isn't much faster than my G35. The G quietly gets going quickly with no drama and the C4 spins the tires and sounds like it is going to win a drag but there is no top end(kind of like the Harley).
I think the key to the new mustang is picking the right gear and turning off the traction.

My numbers are not accurate but that is the jist of what happened.

I find this very hard to believe. Proof? What "hard plastic" was in a 2010 that the 2011 doesn't have? I sat in a 2011 and it felt 99.9% the same as a 2010. The door panels feel just as cheap (my only real complaint about the interior).

Especially with Auto's like the one the OP drove.
I test drove a 5.0 auto vert for an hour and did several WOT runs. What I found was if you were already rolling at 15-25 and then you gun it, the car has to realize it's not in the right gear and it takes a second to down shift, twice. I felt like the downshift came early around 2.5-3k and jumped it all the way to 5-6k. This, to me, felt like it completely missed the sweet spot of torque (my gf agreed). This is probably why you didn't get that feeling of hard pull acceleration you were looking for. This can be avoided by doing a force shift to 2 before gunning it.
This combined with the traction control full on could be the reason some aren't impressed by the butt dyno. The power has been proven time and time again on the track. It's there, you just have to figure out how to summon it.

To you guys complaining about the car not feeling fast. I haven't driven one yet, but just for perspective, if possible, go test drive a Tesla Roadster. Full torque available at 0 RPM. That thing pulls off the line like no other. No wheelspin. No clutch/shifting. No power steering. There is a whine coming from the rearend/motor, but no exhaust noise. Just you, the road, the wind and 0-60 in 3.7, 1/4 in about 12.5. It is an amazing experience. From 0-100, I've never driven another car that 'feels' faster, of course I've never driven a 500-600whp Cobra or anything like that either. It only has 1 gear so it just pulls throughout that entire range.
Just thought I'd throw that in there..

Test Drive Update
So, just got home from dealership where I test drove a black 2011 premium GT hardtop and all I can say is I WANT THIS CAR. I was more comfortable with car this time around and the streets were pretty much empty. I took the same route but I don’t know if it was the weight difference between the convertible or did I just push it harder but needless to say from my first pull it was evident, the 5.0 is real.
Jumped on the freeway at about 50 mph, then slammed on the gas and held it to 4000rpm then out of nowhere I got that feeling I was searching for as the rpm shot to 6000 and speedo showed 120 when I let off. I cruised the rest of the way satisfied that the 5.0 is a beast.
I’ve pretty much decided not to wait for my Gt/Cs, it took everything I had not to buy this Black 5.0 but we’re working on a dealer trade for a premium Grabber blue GT.
Lastly, this car is going to get me in trouble. I asked my Salesman how much he weighed, he replied 270lbs, this car may go airborne when I drive alone.

Last year, when Ford introduced the new body style and interior to the Mustang, it finally matched the car's interior with its classic exterior.
Now, it's even better. The single piece dash is soft to the touch and the real aluminum trim just adds to the car's good looks. More importantly, the interior feels well crafted and put together. There are no chunks of shining plastic or inappropriate gaps.

Ford's grooming for 2011 included adding significant amounts of insulation and noise blockers. These add a sense of quality to the Mustang's interior, and the quieter interior helps Ford's Sync voice control system work better. (It's easier for the system to understand commands when the interior environment is free from road and wind noise.)
