Would you trade?

Hypothetical question –

You have a 2010 that’s ten months old with 6,300 miles on it. It’s a daily driver. You would break even on what the dealer would give you for the 2010 in trade. You pay more principal every month so your payment will not change but you would go back to 60 months and your “cushion” will shrink. You don’t want to go for a shorter term. You will be using X plan to purchase. Lastly, you’re not sure how much you will miss the glass roof in the 2010.

A suitable 2011 is arriving at your local dealer next week. Your $750 brochure coupon expires next week. Coincidence?

You have...
2010 Mustang GT
White w/ Saddle
Auto
Security Pkg
Comfort Pkg
Electronics Pkg
Glass Roof
18” Polished aluminum
Tinted windows, Invisible bra, Custom Tune

You could have...
2011 Mustang GT
Red Candy Metallic w/ Saddle
Auto
Security Pkg
Comfort Pkg
Electronics Pkg
19” Painted Aluminum

Would you trade?

How do you figure you will break even?

Is that just because you won't be shelling out anything to get th new car?

What about all you have paid out for the '10?

I'd say keep the '10 fo a couple more years at least.

I wouldn't. I'd slap a Whipple on the 10

What's your motive for the purchase? +100hp at the crank??
The 2010 GT is a quick car none the less, the 5.0 is a few ticks faster, if that's what you're all about go for it.

Otherwise, (also having mine as a DD for ~10 months with just over 14k in miles) I'm satisfied with the fit and finish, and if I want to go mustang again in the future I'll look to 2014/15 or a used 2011 GT500 in like 2013...

decisions decisions!

I've said this 20 times. I will kick myself forever (or at least until 2014 comes along ) for not getting the 2010 GT I had my eye on, when I had the chance. It would have literally changed my life. If you bought a 10 optioned the way you want it, I have no idea why people are wanting to trade up to an 11. Really, the only things that I would like to have are the Brembo Package (which really could be added to a 10 very easily, but for a pretty penny) and the 6MT (which could really also be added). I prefer the sound of the 4.6 to the new Coyote, even if the new 5.0 is a beast. I could easily throw a FRPP Whipple on, GT500 brakes and wheels and still have a warrantied beast of a car.

Would it have that shiny 5.0 emblem? No, but I could live without it. But nooo, I had to go and ruin the next 10 years for myself, so no V8 stang for me any time soon. Unless I meet a sugar mama or win the lotto.

Just wait until the 2014 MY redesign. It's only 3 years away. I'm sure it'll coincide with the 50th anniversary whether they go with 2014 MY or 2015 MY. Either way, you'll want the latest and greatest when that happens - and maybe it'll have a DI 5.0 by then.

I would. I recently did so with my 'brand X' winter car. I had bought an 08 slightly used at a great price, drove it thru the winter. It was a great machine w/ only 20k and would have kept it for years. Then having an oil change at a Dealer I saw a 10 in the color I always wanted. The lower interest rate (3.24new v 6.6used) plus $2900 discounts to make a sale kept the pmt the same. Although 84 mos instead of 60, I got some upgrades with the new model and and a new full on 5 yr x 100k warranty vs 12 mos remaining. So the pmt on the backend is offset by a new car/new warranty, the good price on the 08 and a good trade paid off the old loan, and so what if I 'leased' a car for 6 mos?
As for a non SE '11 5.0, I would think it would hold value better than a non SE '10, you've got a new car/new warranty, and it sounds like pmt will be the same. So what you 'leased' the '10 for a few months...
And personally I don't care for the glass roof...
IMO

I LOVE my new car! I have NEVER had 2 new cars in my life (08 B w/10k still counts as new in my world!). Drove clunkers for years to get here.

Personally, I wouldn't do the trade. Not for 100 HP while losing some features I enjoy.

Then again, not to throw salt in your wound, I did my research and held off specifically to avoid this type of situation.

Yes, I would get payoff, maybe a little extra.

I don't usually keep cars until they're paid off.

i would personally keep it for a couple more years. I have cruched the numbers and i find that a person need to keep a car minimum of 3 years so that if they do trade or sell it they are not loosing their shirt.

plus you have the last of a model...it will prob be very reliable and we dont know what the problems are yet with the new 5.0

I would never say it sucks. I love my car and would really miss it. Hell sometimes I just open the door to the garage, turn the light on and smile. I found a 2010 with the options I wanted and would do it all over again. I traded my 2007 GT for the interior upgrades because that was my only complaint with it. I'm just posing a question to get opinions. I'm in a position to trade if I want to. I have a $750 coupon and life is short. That's all.

It took over 20 years for me to get my first Mustang, maybe I'm trying to catch up.

Wait until the Job 2 Cars (August 16 Build and later) start coming in or order what you want. You have waited this long whats another 60 days?

That said Im not sorry I traded my 2007 + $11,000 for a 2011.

If you aren't going to keep the 2010 until it is paid for, then you should just pull the trigger on a 2011. I know I would miss the glass roof, so you might be better off ordering a car.

I'd keep the 2010 and see what happens in the next 2-3 years. Ford is on a roll and I predict only good things coming for Mustang. They're not likely to get worse.

And Charlie... an 84 month loan? OUCH! I know, I know... fixed income, etc... but that's a very long time to make a car payment.

Mustang had nothing to offer me until the 2011 V-6 came out. New engine and transmission. I was driving a 4 cylinder Dodge with 0 performance. I'm getting the same gas mileage with my V-6 Mustang as i got with my 4 cylinder Dodge.

I came here looking into the 2014 Mustang but the 2011 V-6 offered me everything i would ever need. I couldn't wait for the 2014 Mustang.

If i were you, and had a 2010 G.T. i would wait to see what Ford is going to do with the 2014 Mustangs. I have a funny feeling Ford is going to come out with a lot of great things for the 2014 Mustang.

Its all up to what you want to do.
