Why don't Mustangs come with hood shocks? It pisses me off when I open the hood to show off the beautiful 5.0 and have to put that stupid stick up to hold the hood. It makes it seem like it's some cheap pos from the 80's.

Anyway does anyone know if I can buy hood shocks for the 2012? And I would prefer not to spend an arm and a leg on them either. Thanks for the help

As usual having no hood lift supports was a cost cutting measure. Just go to any website that sells Mustang parts and accessories and you can find a retrofit kit for the hood lift supports.

It's sort of become a tradition now that Mustangs use a prop rod for the hood. Even Jay Leno joked about it when he did the review of the 2011 GT. All the way back to the '74 Mustang II(JUNK!) Mustangs have used a prop rod, so blame it on the bean counters who designed the II...

I believe that CJ Pony parts has the least expensive hood strut kit and it is a pretty decent looking kit for less than $90 unpainted and only a little more for color match.

I use these, $99.99, free shipping, no tax. They are bolt on and don't require you to drill anything on your hood. Got them on my '06 and '11, work perfect and you can install them easily by yourself.

I asked this question on the SN95Forums about why didn't they add rear spacers so rims would fit flush. The only answer I remember is if Ford made it perfect, what fun would that be?

Don't agree with it, though! I'd be more than happy with the upgrades I've done. Louder mufflers, 1 touch blinkers, & these hood struts. I'm with you!!!

Redline Tuning. About $100, look like OEM, and perform better than the bracket style ones.

The cars has been around for a long time and nothing works better then the stick, may not look the best but it's virtually unbreakable

I still keep the stick under the hood. Never know when you're gonna need to do something and it's windy out. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Besides being cheaper and weighing less, with the prop-rod hood you can close it without having to push down on the hood and leaving fingerprints on it.

This is the way I look at it. I've had the stick on all my mustangs since the mid 90's and wouldn't have it anyway.

Just my .02, be careful of the color matched ones. I have Kona blue too and bought the CPC struts and the color is not 100% accurate. I wish I would have done the black ones instead.

My friend recently bought a used G35 S coupe and when he opened the hood to show me the motor, to my surprise, it also has a prop rod. This is a luxury coupe which cost more than my Mustang. Another's friend 2007/2008 RAV4 also has one. For some reason this made me feel less embarrassed about my car having a prop rod.
