Who's the bravest of them all?

I'll start it with an easy one.

Let me add, at the risk of starting a flame, I don't do this on a regular basis. It just happens with daily driving sometimes.

From what I understand, manufacturers program a margin of error intentionally into the computer, so you could theoretically get to 0 miles and still have a gallon left in the tank. You should try it!

I did try it but not on purpose!!! Was stuck in stop and go construction traffic in lower part of Georgia on I-75. It said I had 20 miles to empty and I was 10 miles from my exit.....then the traffic jam. When i pulled off at my usual gas stop on the trip it said "0" miles to empty. As I crested the top of the exit the car sputtered and I coasted into the gas station....... Needless to stay I don't push it that close anymore

RICK: Have you ever been completely below the slash?

KRAMER: Well, I almost did once, and I blacked out. When I came to, the car was in a ditch, and the tank was full. I don’t know who did it, and I never got to thank them.

Careful, Ford might VOID your Powertrain Warranty by claiming you running it too low on fuel then caused a Lean Burn condition, thereby burning up the #8 cylinder.

Been there, done that*. It actually does go a bit farther after 0, and takes somewhere in the range of 14.5 gallons.

<-- is Mikey. But not that Life Cereal guy, he probably eats tomatoes and papaya, the latter of which makes my throat swell and I can't breathe, it turns out, so I'm very glad I don't like it.

/ * - didn't get a T-shirt, dangit.
//The range check was NOT on purpose.
///Figure it's the same for '06 as '10+s...

Try topping off the tank and gas running out from under the car.

Tank capacity is 16 gals. Reset your "fuel used" counter when you fill the car up full...then you will know how much you have left over when you get the empty warning. In the 06 it's about 1.3 gals at "E"

you do know that the fuel itself is the lubrication for the pump, don't ya? You should never run it that low. There is actually no reason to..

I don't like to go lower than a quarter tank. The gas helps keep the fuel pump cool. If it runs too hot, it will wear out faster. Easier to replace it on an S197 than my old fox body, but you KNOW they will likely go bad about a week after the warranty expires.

U mean 1/4 of a tank right? Not gallon.

Just ran a test on a road trip last week.... Stopped to fill up at "22 miles to E", car took 14.2 gallons.

On the trip, calculated 25 mpg at the fill up, so it looks like there is a one gallon "cushion" at "0 miles to E".

This wasn't intentional but when I finally got to a gas station and looked at the gauge one last time, I remembered this old thread and snapped a pic... It might be hard to read, but it says 0
