Where to order a 2012 Mustang GT

Hello everyone. I want to order a 2012 Mustang GT convertible. I know that some of you have ordered 2012s, and a few of you even have VINs.

This may sound strange, but I cannot find a dealer who will take my order. I live near Chicago. My plan was to order a car and take it to Brenspeed in Indiana for some mods. My contact at Brenspeed recommended a nearby Ford dealership that they work with closely. I was put in touch with their Mustang specialist, who promptly told me he hasn't received any order guides for 2012s (odd since it's all over the internet...). I've not heard from him since. Suffice it to say, he has been less than helpful.

I then sent out an email to the internet salesmen at several Ford dealerships here in Chicagoland. I made it very clear I wanted to order a 2012 Mustang GT convertible. I detailed the options that I wanted, as I had reviewed the 2012 ordering guide. One week later, I'm still greeted by stony silence.

Are there any dealerships out there with 2012 allocations? Is it really too early?

I just walked in to my local Ford dealership and told the salesman about what I wanted. At the time, he had no idea that the 2012s were ready to order, but with a little of the information that is on the 2012 ordering information thread that I supplied him, he was able to quickly take my order. This is a small dealership on the very edge of the Phoenix area in farm country and they did not have any troubles with it so far. It is definately not too early to order. If worse comes to worse there are several people who work for dealers on these forums, such as Five Oh Brian, that can help yopu order a car and drop ship it to a nearby dealership if you really cannot find anyone close. I am sure they would give you a good price.

That's what I thought! I wouldn't mind the drop ship route, if the costs of doing so aren't outrageous. I'd love to hear from people who work at dealerships.

We just had our first '12 GT Convertible scheduled this morning and I have the VIN for it. Black with the Brick Red interior. We also have a '12 GT Coupe scheduled to be built the week of January 17th. Ford has been scheduling '12's for a couple weeks now (check out the Boss 302 threads for further evidence).

I'm not a salesman where I work, but I can hook you up with our fleet manager who will drop ship a special ordered '12 to your local dealer. Our price is just $99 over the factory invoice total on GT's and you keep whatever rebates you qualify for. Your local dealer will charge some sort of convenience or courtesy delivery fee to prep/ready the car for you (these tend to average a few hundred bucks). You can PM me for quotes and such if you like.

What I want

To anyone affiliated with a dealer:

I want to order a 2012 Mustang GT Premium convertible. I am planning to order the car this week. I want a race red, automatic, GT convertible with stone interior and black cloth roof. I have no problem ordering a car elsewhere in the country, and drop shipping it to my location, if the costs are reasonable.

I specced out what I want in a 2012 model below with codes from the 2012 ordering guide.

2012 MUSTANG GT PREMIUM CONVERTIBLE RAPID SPEC (400A)

Mustang V8 – Convertible (incl. D&D): P8F
Race red: PQ
Medium stone leather interior: 4U
Black cloth roof: CA
5.0L 4V Ti-VCT V8 Engine: 99F
6-speed Auto Transmission: 443
Reverse Sensing System & Security Package: 43S
HID & Security Package When ordered with 43T
Comfort Package: 53B
Electronics Package: 58N
18" Polished Aluminum Wheels: 64M
Rear Video Camera with Electronics Pkg. (58N) – Requires Decklid Spoiler: 77C

There are also several accessories that I would like as dealer installed options on my Mustang (I've listed the Ford parts #). If these could be installed at your dealership, that would be ideal. If not, I can have them installed locally.

Rear Lower Diffuser: AR3Z-17F828-AA
Front Lower Fascia with Fog Lights: BR3Z-15200-AA
Grill surround: BR3Z-8419-AA
Chrome Billet Grille: BR3Z-8200-AB
Decklid Panel, V8: AR3Z-6342528-F

Please PM me if you are interested. I am ready to order this week.

You're going to have a very nice GT there with all the bells and whistles. If I had an auto, I would definitely add a remote start.

$44,780 = MSRP.
$41,463 = Factory Invoice Total.
$41,562 = Our Sale Price before any rebates are deducted.

We can't include or install any of the dealer installed options as we'd have the car drop shipped directly to your local dealership from Ford, so it would never touch our lot. You could certainly have your local dealer order/install these items once the car arrives there, though.

Our sale price to special order is just $99 over the factory invoice total - and you keep the rebates. I bet you could find this deal closer to home, but if not, keep us in mind.

The saga continues

Well, it appears my search for my 2012 Mustang GT convertible continues. My local dealership finally got back to me, and quoted me a very respectable price for ordering a 2012 GT convertible.

I also got prices for the accessories that I wanted. I was waiting to get an estimate from their body shop about the cost of installing the lower fascia, decklid panel and grille. The salesman contacted me today and told me: "My bodyshop won't do these installs. Says the ground effects are always a problem. Needs grinding down re-adjusting etc etc etc and more work than what it is worth."

I'm shocked, as these are Ford produced parts. Indeed, you can actually configure your car with them on the Ford website. Needless to say, I'm still looking for a dealership that can order a 2012 GT convertible, and handle the install of the Ford accessories that I want. Any takers? I don't mind leaving Illinois to buy. Post or PM if interested.

I dont understand why your search continues.. Five oh brian said he can sell you the car for 100$ over invoice and drop ship it to your local dealer. You likely wont be getting that deal anywhere else unless you search fairly hard and break some *****. Maybe your local dealer wont put on the ground effects, but being your taking your car to brenspeed I'm sure they're more then capable of installing a couple body pieces and wouldn't charge you too much.

Not true. Three dealerships have now contacted me so far, and offered essentially the same good deal. Since they're all offering the same deal, the differentiating factor would be getting the car in the condition that I want it, straight from the dealership.

I will ask Brenspeed to handle this, if I can't find a dealership that can do the install.

I'm happy to report that my search has ended. I got several good offers from forum members affiliated with dealers. One of them was a particularly helpful salesman here in the Chicagoland area. He clearly has a passion for Mustangs, and provided me with an outstanding deal ($200 under invoice with ALL of the accessories I wanted installed at $1200). I will leave him and his dealership anonymous. He has made this a real Christmas to remember. I hope to take possession of my 2012 Mustang GT convertible this coming March.

I want to thank everyone who replied or PM'd me with offers.
