When the dust settles on the S550, how will S197 be viewed?
The 2015 still doesn't quite do it for me. I like the rear end but overall I'm still meh about the look. When I hear or read that our cars look dated next to one I think thank god.
I had considered waiting for the '15 but decided to go ahead just two years ago today. I saw a '15 at the LeMay museum in Tacoma yesterday and I'm glad I didn't wait. There are things I like about it, but I really prefer my '14, and I've had the fun of almost two years and over 28K miles of ownership.
my favorite is still the 69 fastbacks even though mines been in the garage over 30 years now
my second favorite is still the 05-09, but I really liked the front of the 10-12, and the rear of the 13-14 look pretty cool to me...like the 71-04, the 15 though just dont scream BUY ME enough to me- but checked them out, interiors are definitely best ever, and I'm sure the performance will exceed all past models... but lookswise we will all have our individual favorites.
oldschool maybe, but I like thick sidewalls, deep wheels, recessed grills/headlamps and flat taillamp panels best...still in love with my obsolete 06... if given a choice of a new 05 or a new 15, Id still take the 05, just looks more like I always thought it should - hope the new ones find a great fanbase (worldwide), know they will be a ball to drive in any trim

'15s are still pretty blech to me. Hate the profile view, with that **** rocker panel that makes the body look tapered in the middle. Doesn't make the car look lean, just bone shaped or something. Front does nothing for me, and the option packages and wheel options currently blow, though we know those will get better each year.
The S197 will be viewed favorably in 5.0 form, but history will remember the S550 for its IRS.
Once the S550 gets a midcycle facelift, direct injection, and hopefully a real auto tranny like an 8 speed DCT without a torque converter, then the early S550 will be pretty undesirable, especially considering the design is so polarizing to begin with without even seeing revised sheet metal, which surely should address some of the problems.

The problem wasn't so much with the MT-82 transmission itself, but the fact that the shifter is not directly mounted to the transmission (like it is in the T-5 and other transmissions).
Once the shift mechanism is directly attached to the transmission (e.g., with the Blowfish Racing bracket), nearly 100% of the issues people have with the "transmission" go away.

No doubt that once someone spends money for an aftermarket part, then the problem is fixed. With that said someone that just spent 30 plus thousand dollars shouldn't have issues with the transmission and need to spend more money for an aftermarket part (blowfish racing bracket) to make the factory part work correctly. It should work correctly from jump I constantly hear problems with MT 82 transmission that people have. Its junk

Isn't the automatic a $1,600 option, so a couple hundred towards upgrading MT-82 is still cheaper!
By the way I have been racing my 2014 for almost a year
1/4 mi. and SCCA solo2, I have not had one shifter problem!
And I have beaten several automatics in the process! (Just Saying!)
WOW we are off topic!
