took ownership about a week and a half ago. after two tanksfuls we are averaging about 19.7 as a DD. Though the Dash Track App reads 17, the 19.7 is as measure of fuel over miles driven. Not sure why the discrepency. But, I believe the formula of miles/fuel more than the metered measure of the computer.

I average 20-22 mpg. If you wanted something with mileage buy a prius.

 

This is what I told my wife, She wanted a car that got great mileage, So I bought her a Fiesta (f**k Toyota hate to see profit $$$ going overseas). I will do OK with the Mustang, but like was said a lot in this thread its a Mustang not a econobox!!

 

Mileage is important to most but I think people are wrong to just say a GT gets bad mileage. I get around 5 more MPG than my wife's truck and the same if I had gotten a truck which was my second choice after the Stang so it all subjective. Not sure if I used that word correctly

I was hoping to settle around 21.5 average which is just a tad lower than my last car but looks like I'm going to stay in the 20.5 area. I do drive a little more aggressive in this one I have noticed.

 

Reviving an old thread...just took the wife and kid from Las Vegas to Los Angeles round-trip, for Labor Day Weekend. 100 degrees outside, trunk full of luggage, A/C on, set cruise control at 80 MPH, and I averaged 26-27 MPG, both ways. I am impressed with this motor! (2011 GT)

Hey Bill. Yes, a great 3-day weekend overall with perfect weather. And it was our first long road-trip with the Mustang, wife and son loved it (me too). Trunk really is big for a sports car. The mileage from the GT was a great surprise. At that rate (26-27 MPG), the range is over 400 miles! I was actually worried about short range with a relativley small (16 gal.) gas tank. Next trip will be in December, we'll see how she does with cooler temps and no A/C. Since other TMS members and other GT owners that I speak with often complain of poor gas mileage, maybe some of my mods actually did improve fuel economy...chin spoiler, rear wing, CAI, exhaust...? Who knows. But I almost never dropped below 80 MPH, and the A/C was cranked, and still did very well. Lucky. But now I know we can take some longer trips on one tank.

 

I feel the same way about mileage as most of the others in this thread do. I see it as a cost I am willing to accept in order to have the experience of driving with a powerful V8 under the hood. That said, the new 5.0 and most modern V8's in general aren't the terribly inefficient gas hogs they were 45 years ago.

Sure, if you can't resist keeping the needle in the higher RPM ranges your fuel mileage will suffer, but just general in and around town and on the highway the Mustang ain't all that bad. The rating on it are pretty much the same as my V6 Charger, and I think that's pretty good for 2 extra cylinders and another 200 HP.

im getting a best 15.5 totally stock on my '13, my 2011 with the boss mani, o/r h, jlt cai, tuned with 3.90 gears used to get 19 over all. I swear something isnt right with my '13 and i also had the hardest time tuning it before i gave up and sold the tuner. Im really regretting selling my '11

 

I sometimes feel the same way with mine. 13mpg, city + highway, consistently since I've had the car. What can ya' do. Not saying I don't have a heavy foot, but really, 13mpg?

 

Are you guys measuring correctly? I fill it, reset my trip meter, go until exactly half-full, then divide my trip miles by 8 (1/2 tank). 13-15 MPG combined city/hwy does not sound right. My overall mileage (since new) reads 20, and I track my car about 3x per year. Admittedly, I do feather it a lot around town.

 

I think it's those lightweight forged FRPP wheels, saving you weight and easy-Rollin'! Ha-ha, the mileage is just gravy when one's car looks like yours, Peter!

Re mpg, my experience has been this: at a fairly steady 55to 60, I'll average 27. But if I'm cruising at 70-ish my mpgs drop to the rated 25 mpg or so. My overall "daily" average is 21.5 to 22.

 

Pete, that's not going to give you a very accurate measurement. For one thing, the fuel gauge (at least in my '11 GT) is calibrated for 14 gallons. I know the tank is 16 but I've never been able to put more than 14.3 back in, since the car tells me there's 0 miles left in the tank at that point. So by dividing your half tank mileage by 8, you're lowering the mileage by at least 12.5%.

Most accurate way to measure your mileage is to write down (or use one of the many smartphone apps out there) the following numbers when you fill up your gas tank: your current odometer reading and how many gallons of gas were put into the car. Then, the next time you fill up your tank, do the same and take the difference between the two odometer readings (i.e. the mileage you went on the first tank of gas) and divide it by the number of gallons you put in the first time. There's your mileage reading.

Hi Kyle. You are correct. But my way works if you hit 1/2 full, head back to the pump, and add 8 gallons - which I've done. It gets you close to an 8 gallon measurement - may not be exact, but close.

 

C'mon guys this isn't rocket science here!!! We should have all learned how to do this simple math by 6th grade! LOL
