What would you like to see on a new Ford
What would you like to see on a new Ford
I ask this on another forum but here is what I want.
1. Real gauges that tell the truth about engine operation. No more fake crap Ford!
2. An oil life monitor like Gm has that is very complex and not a mileage counter. Ford, that is weak.
Ford must think we are all idiots with all the idiot lights.
3. When starting up the engine has to rev to 2 grand or more hot or cold and I hate that along with hanging rpms between shifts. I understand it to be an emissions deal but Christ I hate it.
What are your thoughts on this?

1. I agree that the gauges should be more accurate but this is a problem that all manufacturers have not just Ford. It's programed into the cluster or the ECM depending on which is controlling the vehicle. For the average, everyday point A to point B driver this is more than adequate. All they want to know it that the battery is not dead and the car is not overheating. Most of the warning/idiot lights are federally mandated and have to be on all cars.
2. I don't believe any oil life monitor regardless of how it comes to the conclusion that the oil needs to be changed. Just another doodad that isn't needed.
3. I never noticed it, it doesn't bother me and with the nice sound of the FR500S mufflers on my GT I like how it sounds when it starts. Especially on a cold morning.

I agree on the gauges wholeheartedly, I ordered the optional gauge package from the factory when ordering my Mini Cooper, so I have real oil pressure, oil temp, and coolant temp gauges, and at least my Miata has a real oil pressure gauge, any Miata a few years newer still has an oil pressure gauge, but it is in idiot gauge that jumps to a preset point when the oil pressure is "normal". At least for newer cars you can get things like the Scangauge that plugs into the OBDII port and gives you a lot of different readouts. Too bad the factory can't go back to real gauges, at least on performance cars.
Don't much care for an oil life monitor, I've got one on my Mini and it adjusts the mileage depending on how I drive, but I try and change it at the 12 month mark since that always comes before the mileage reaches zero.

For the gauges, I agree, but maybe make it part of the track pack. As mentioned above, average daily drivers don't need it.
I was also told by an engineer that part of the reasoning for going to the "watered down" gauges was to minimize warranty complaints. You wouldn't believe how many people would complain that "most of the time the needle is on the 'R' of 'NORMAL,' but this morning it went straight up to the 'M!'

This is very true.
For gauges(and this is on most vehicles) there are 3 settings. Cold, Warm and Oh @#%$. If you want to know EXACTLY what is going on, pick up same gauges and a pod because otherwise you won't know 100% what's going on. The only exact things you need to know is your fuel level, speed and rpm, though even then most people don't need that.
Since we're talking seats, I'd love to see an adjustable thigh extension like I had on the stock seats of my 1989 5.0 LX Mustang. I've got rather long legs, and the bottom seat cushion on any recent Mustang is too short. The only other recent car I've seen with thigh extensions on the seat bottoms is the optional sport seats on the BMW 3-series.
Definitely agree with the gauges.
Though, I would like to have a meaningful boost gauge from the factory
Other options that would be great to have, but not a big deal:
Better quality door panels (even if that means they are all black)
smart key and push button start
retractable/removable glass roof (ala Porsche Targa)
EcoBoost 3.5, IRS

I want autodrive when I'm cruising between cities and the commute. I'll take over when we're there. Oh, and voice command... as in "hey, turn around and take that road back there on the right."
Yeah, I bet we could have that for only a $150 option.
/Don't understand the gauge thing... I have oil, water, battery and fuel...
//Oh, those that *don't* have them, like non-IUP. Got it.
///Like Chevy, et al, were't champions of ID10T lights.

the guages i dont think will ever be accurate, but i think ford needs to better differentiate their gauges in their cars. like, everything besides the superduty, taurus, and any V8 powered mustang all have gauges that read 7000rpm; 120mph. i mean the V6 (3.0L and 3.5L) fusion has the power to surpass 120 and to me it doesnt take long to reach 120 (then again i havent been in a fusion going that fast). im even dissapointed they couldnt put a 160 or 170mph speedo in the '10 SHO, even thought they limited it to just 133mph.
I have a 96 Gm truck that tells the truth. Why cant Ford give us accuracte information? ??? Please explaain. I am raising a big BS flag on Ford.
This reving at start up is also BS. My Mustang does it and I hate it. Its BS. My 4.3 V6 does not do this and it starts and idles like it should at about seven hundred rpm.
Sorry, I am venting and I am pissed off.

1. Never had a problem with the gauges.
2. This is a horrible idea. I'm glad Ford doesn't have it. Who's to say that GM isn't programming that thing to tell people their oil is still good when it isn't, just to reduce engine life? Use decent oil, and change it often.
3. Never noticed it, but if it's an emissions thing then so be it.
