Gotta disagree with the better stereo...I'd rather ford spend the money on making it a better car, not a mobile sound booth. There are better aftermarket options that are available if you're an audiophile. Making people pay more for a sound system they either don't need or don't appreciate is like putting fake hood scoops and non-functioning side scoops on every GT they produce. Not everyone wants it.
The Ford stereos in their Mustangs are appallingly bad. Probably the worst in the industry, and if not, **** near it. I went to Best Buy just to hear what they had, and they had these little 4" Sony speakers on sale for $19.99 a pair, and they sounded better than what is in my car.
Try this sometime. Go to a Nissan dealership and ask to see an Altima. Not a fully loaded SE, just the standard Altima. Turn on the radio and listen to the sound. Then go to Ford and listen to a base model Mustang stereo. There is no comparison, and I doubt the manufacturing cost is all that different.
Ford suffers because of their cheapness. I'm sure buyers wouldn't mind an extra $50 added to their initial price to get speakers that didn't sound like they came from the 1970s. It doesn't need a whole new sound system, just higher quality speakers.

My 2010 Mazda Speed 3 has the Bose. Its not an overpowering system at all but its clean and clear and can be turned up loud without worrying about distortion

So if your happy with the seat confort itself and want to upgrade, take a look. Or, Roush sells them as well.

I don't really care too much about the stereo system in my car, first of all, it's not the ideal kind of environment to enjoy music in a car, so one shouldn't have too much expectation in car stereo to begin with.
I haven't put on my Grado labs headphones on in a while now, but I remember when i first got my 13' mustang with standard Shaker, i thought the stereo lacked crispiness, but that's compared to a set of Grado with inline amp, which surpasses most high end home systems. I don't use any Bose noise cancelling headphones or whatever dr. dre ones, cos they are absolute junk in terms of sound quality, if you really wanna enjoy music, get a pair from Grado labs and then get an in-line amplifier, it will be the best sound experience you can get.
Now I've gotten used to the mustang's stereo system I don't have anything to complain (maybe that's a bad thing). But again, inside of a car is not a good place to begin with if you want to really enjoy music.
For cruising around in your mustang with that nice exhaust note (especially you V8 owners), it's a bit unnecessary to ask for top-notch stereo system cos the slight difference it makes goes away with your engine and road noise. I'd be ok with any reasonable sound system in a car like mustang.
Again, i'm not the bass-eager type, i like the balanced low and highs, my headphones are usually rich on the bass side but delivers sharp crisp high-ends as well. If you are one of those who drive down the road with bass up all the way shaking everyone else's windshields around you on the road, maybe you do need a 1000watt system with a powerful basswoofer. but to me that would be just useless.

I don't know anyone who wants a crap radio that sounds worse than a base model radio in a 1980s Camaro. (And having had two mid-80s Camaros, I know which sounds worse.) Also, I don't know a single person who would be happy with the "Shaker" systems if they got to hear what the cheaper Bose systems that were in my Maxima and G35 sounded like. My wife's 98 Civic EX had a sound system that rivaled the Shaker. A CIVIC!!

Since I'm in Arizona and it was 112 a few days ago......I wish the Mustang had the AC built into the seats.
I rented a Lincoln car (MKZ I think) awhile back and it had cooling/heated seats. The AC was nice!

I've owned both a 350z and a mazdaspeed 3. I know what their systems sound like. I've also owned an 08 GTS with the factory stereo. It sounded good enough for me and was not measurably lower in sound quality to either of the other two cars. Again, if you're an audiophile, there are aftermarket options. The mustang is not a 4-door cruiser meant for Sunday drives. It's a performance coupe meant to excite the driver through feel and the sound of the engine, not the sound system. Again, I'd rather pay for performance than better speakers.

Crazy comments here regarding something as trivial as the standard sound system.
1. The Visteon-sourced Shaker radio may not match the original Sony 'Mach' systems, but compared to a lot of stock upgraded sound systems it is no slouch. I had a Mazdaspeed 6 with the optional Bose of that year and while that was 'clearer' the Shaker is definitely punchier - with the style of music I listen to (mostly Metal) this is a big difference.
2. You're forgetting this is one of the last vestiges of affordable RWD sports coupe in this country left. Given that I'm happy with whatever radio comes in the car; if you wanna talk about radios with stuff left to be desired has anyone brought up Hyundai?

No one said that. No one even intimated it. However, what you consider "crappy" and "3rd rate" is perfectly acceptable to at least some mustang owners. For some reason, this causes you problems; perhaps you need to be on a Scion board talking about your neon-green xb. I understand you can fit one hell of a sound system in there.

Not getting the v8, **** insurance prices put it out of my reach so i just went with the base v6 2012 model. Wish it came with a better sound system, louder exhaust (like Z and G series cars) and i kinda wish mycolor was available for all trims. Wish i could get trackapps just for fun. Oh, and glass roof wouldve been sweet as well.

And, based on what you said, 80's Camaros must have had killer stereos because my '88 Taurus and my '11 Mustang do not have comparable stereos. Though the AM/FM only stereo was sweet, I hate having AM/FM, Sync, USB, AUX input, Sirius/XM and CD options.

None of my GM F-body cars had killer stereos... Back then the Delco stereo radios were the epitome of muddy sounding distortion. I had to rip them all out and replace the head unit and speakers with something better to get a decent sound. With the exception of one ultra custom sound system I put in my 85 IROC-Z, the 08 and 10 Mustangs have the best sound systems of any other car I have had.
