What kind of engine oil do you use?

I have 2500 miles on my 2012 mustang so I'm planning to change my oil. I own the car and plan to keep it for a long time maybe 8+years. Which engine oil and how many quarts do you recommend?

What my Bullitt Owners Manual tells me to use.

As for my 83 F150 4x with 250+k, cheap dino (that meets specs).

Mobil1 is good... definitely offers more protection that olive or canola.

I don't know about you guys but I can't make myself legnthen the oil change interval even if people insist that it's a waste to flush out synthetic oil after only 3000 miles.

I use to use mobil one but discovered ford part syn oil does the trick for 5k miles no problem and still has some good life left in it, for a few bucks less.

Me too. Maybe its just engraved in our brain. Christ I have changed mine twice because of time and I only have 3000 miles on my car in a little over a year. Cheap insurance i think.

Must be nice to have money to throw away on all those short oil changes.

To me, that's mod money or gas money lost.

Please explain that last post. I went up 2K miles. My 11 requires it, so how's the $ lost?

5000 mile intervals with Motorcraft Oil & Filter at the dealer. If for no other reason that if I ever had an engine failure, Ford will do an oil analysis. It will show that I have the oil they specify, and my oil change records at the dealer will also show that I am following the "severe usage" oil change interval. The service manual suggests 7500 mile intervals are acceptable for cars that are mostly highway driven. Most people fall into the "severe usage" category anyway.
Now the new 5.0 has an 8 quart fill and a recommended change interval of 10k miles (non-severe). For those that like to actually drive their cars, 5k intervals are more than acceptable.
Plus 5k intervals makes it easier to remember when to change it.

You'll have to explain too, don't know what "went up 2K miles" means or about your 11 requiring it.

If Ford is confident that you can go up to 10,000 miles on a oil change using semi-synthetic then there is no reason that you can't extend that interval using a good full synthetic and doing interim filter changes.

This reduces the amount of oil you buy by not doing unnecessary 3,000 or 5,000 mile oil changes, leaving you with more $$$ in your pocket to buy gas or more mods.

Very reasonable here...you have almost convinced me to switch to 4k miles!

I have been to the dealership for my three changes (6500 miles so far ) and I'll continue to do so for the reasons you mentioned.

I see where youre coming from but ford will not not warranty the engine if your using another oil. All the above oils meet or exceed manufacturers specifications.

Mobil 1, (using since 1978) with the Motorcraft filter every 5000 miles or twice a year.

I just read the new Fiat 500 Abarth has an 18000 miles oil change interval, in Europe.
