It's the light sensor for automatically turning on the night time interior lighting.

If you press that button, specifically between 12:01 am and 12:02 am, while blindfolded, in neutral, rolling backwards, singing "happy birthday" all at the same time, you win the game.

All models have it, on models w/o auto headlights it only controls the dashboard lights
