What is with all the noises?
Question for all those long time Mustang owners. I've owned my 11' GT for about 3 1/2 months now and have noticed that this car is extremely noisy at times. Now, 99% of the time it doesn't really bother me, but every now and then it becomes quite annoying to say the least. Below are a list of the issues.
1) Cold start ticking sound, sounds almost like valves tapping
2) Hard 1-2 shift
3) After heating up or a long cruise, the clutch at sometimes becomes very sloppy and my engagements are less smooth.
4) Drive train noises, when I let up of the clutch in a low gear I get a banging sound
5) Gear whine, as I increase my speed, there is a small whine similar to a supercharger sound
Now, I've been on these forums long enough to realize I'm not alone as I've heard of many people having all or some of the issues I have. My question is, have Mustang's for years been like this? I understand that given the Mustang price there may have been some corners cut in order to keep cost down, but what gives. It seems like this Mustang is a noise machine. I sometimes regret buying the first model year and wish I had waited, as I've heard the 2012 doesn't have some of these issues. Anyone else feel this way? Also, when is Ford going to issue a recall or at least a TSB on these issues?

#1 - Have you had a 4V OHC before? There is a bit of clatter. Some also say the injectors make noise.
#3 - Sometimes that happens to me and its because I don't have the seat adjusted just right.
#4 - Sounds like rear end clunk. Somewhat normal in a Track-Lock diff.
1) Cold start ticking sound, sounds almost like valves tapping
Normal for the motor.
2) Hard 1-2 shift
Normal for this transmission when cold. Dealers are waiting on a fix.
3) After heating up or a long cruise, the clutch at sometimes becomes very sloppy and my engagements are less smooth.
Not sure, early build cars did have clutch issues, may also be tied to 4.
4) Drive train noises, when I let up of the clutch in a low gear I get a banging sound
That shouldn't happen.
5) Gear whine, as I increase my speed, there is a small whine similar to a supercharger sound
Seems to be normal for this transmission, but if it feels excessive, have it checked out. Some people have found that their transmissions didn't break in properly, they just broke.

As for the clunking, my car did the same thing when I first got it. After a couple thousand miles its gone away. Other people had the exact same thing and it will go away after break in

I've had my 2011 5.0 since July and, at almost 9K miles, the only issue I've experienced is the hard 1-2 shift. I can tell you for certain, though, that the Livernois tune has virtually eliminated any and all issues I had with my six-speed manual. There is still some slop in the shifter itself, but I believe it's attributed to the "sloppy" factory bushings and bracket; a Barton or MGW shifter should essentially eliminate this issue.

When u first start the car, first to second shift if u could add a n in between it seems a lil better from that point on. So try 1st > n >2nd, let go of the clutch completely in n first before u shift into second
Yeah, I've never went in to the dealer for any of the issues. Like I said, most of the time they don't really bother me that much. As long as I'm not left stranded I'll be fine. But, the second any of the problem are either recalled or has a TSB issued for them, I'll be at the dealer immediately.
