Can someone please tell me what this is under my dash. I noticed it blinking during driving but didn't pay too much attention, figured it might be a low fuel warning since my fuel light turned on. After getting home and locking my car and still seeing it still blinking it's kind if weird, seems like it would drain the battery with it's constant blinking. What is this-image-2067072877.jpg

It blinks orange constantly not matter if the car is running or the alarm is on. Never seen this before.

Based on the label, it appears to be some type of cellular device. IMEI number is the first clue. Do a Google search on the P/N number and seem to be some type of Asset Tracking and Recovery device.

Got an FCC number too, you see that?

It's talking to somebody that much is certain. My guess is that its got to be part of your SYNC system. Cell phone interface or navigation or possibly both.

Does your car have an alarm on it? If so was it installed by the Dealer?

Its the black box. They are watching you. I agree with the other that said its part of the sync or alarm. Pretty lame way to mount it though. That makes me think it is an after market thing. So in closing this post was totally useless to you.

That is a GPS vehicle recovery tracking device. Used car dealers install them to track a car if someone does not pay. Makes it easier for them to repo the car. They can even make it so the car wont start if you dont pay your bill. This is not a ford part and has nothing to do with the navigation or sync. Was the car bought new or used?

Ok, that makes sense. I was worried at first because the orange light was blinking onto my hood lever. I thought it was telling me my hood was open or that I was on low fuel! Lol I was kind of freaking out when I noticed the light blinking after I turned my alarm on, it's a pretty quick blink so I didn't think it was the alarm. Anyways, thanks for the response! I hope the guy I bought it from doesn't try to come swoop it up! Lol he worked for a dealership so I'm sure he has some connections. Before I bought the car I told him I would pay him with a navy federal check so I'm sure he installed this device in advance because bigger checks usually have holds on them. Clever guy.

+1. Get that out of there. If it was a private sale and there's no lien on the car saying it's gotta stay there, it's only got the potential for problems down the road.

It's a CalAmp LMU-400 (I think) tracker.

It may have been installed by the PO's dealership, and yours didn't know about it. OR... of course... they don't trust you.

Take it to them and MAKE them take it out, free. It should not be on the car unless you signed paperwork detailing this very thing. That should have been caught at Make Ready or Preowned Service checks.

Lol, I guess if someone stole my car I would be able to track it. I unplugged it so it would stop blinking, not sure if that matters.

Kind of invasive. Wonder who gathers the info and what they do with it.

Maybe the original owner is part of the rebel alliance and he hid the plans to a battle station in that car?

The OP may be the only hope...
