What is this?

When shopping for my Mustang I test drove a 2011 V6 Premium. A few days later I made my deal on a different yet almost identical car. However, I noticed one very tiny difference. The car I drove had two small openings in the overhead console, one of either side (see attached photo). My car does not have these openings. Now I don't feel slighted that I don't have the openings....but I am curious; what were they for? Why does one 2011 V6 have them and the other one does not? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kevin

That looks like the microphone for the Bluetooth.

I have holes like that above both lights in my 06 I'm pretty sure they are motion sensors that come with the antitheft package. Like if you set the alarm and something moves around inside your car it sets it off. I think I read that awhile back in my owners manual.

I believe I have 2 holes like that on my '10 and one of them lights up when the passenger airbag is disengaged. shine a flashlight on it to see if you can see any writing printed on it.

On the '11 GT, I think they are the motion sensors for the factory optional security package. If I leave the windows down, lock the doors, and wave my hand inside...the horns and lights go off.

Sync mic is on the mirror I believe.

Motion sensors....OK. My car does not have the fancy anti-theft option and does not have the holes so that makes sense.

Thanks,

KT

All of that is correct. Even with windows up the sensors will activate the horn if someone is standing near.

My early build 11 has a hole like the picture on both sides. I think it must be motion sensors, like others think also.

They're definitely brain scanners (or BS). They can predict your steering movements and compensate in turns before you can correct. The brain scanner can also upload whatever song is on your mind at the time to your Sync and it will actually play the song for you. This car is amazing!!
