Water leak on driver side?

Hey y'all, so its been raining a couple days in Houston and a couple days ago I felt a drop of water fall onto my foot while driving (left foot). The mat had a wet spot on the top left corner. I checked above the driver side foot well (behind the steering wheel to the left) and their was a huge wet spot in the insulation. Now it was not raining at the time but it had rained before. I went to service it and the guy told me it might just be the A/C components releasing condensation due to the humidity, and that putting it on re circulation should make it stop. It hasn't rained so I haven't been able to test it, but what are yall's thoughts? Have any of you experienced it? I am hoping it is not a leak, but...

I have never noticed any water inside my GT. I'm not sure I buy the answer about the AC, and I don't know why putting it on recirculate would make it stop. That doesn't sound right to me. Maybe someone else with more knowledge on this can chime in and correct me if I'm wrong. However, if you've been running the AC, you might check the condensation hose and make sure it's not disconnected or has a hole in it. Also, keep in mind that water leaks can travel a long way from where they originate.

If it keeps happening, I would take it back to the dealer again and have them check it out and fix it.

Condensation from heater cores or ac can happen if the holes get plugged in the dash but that shouldn't happen with a new car

I would suspect a possible windshield leak.

Shouldn't be any areas on the left side that would see condensation, all of the components that might do that are on the right side.

Good point. I hadn't thought of that.

Hey, thanks for the replies. Yeah I didn't really buy the A/C thing but wasnt sure. Im going to be taking it back soon but will see if it is leaking anymore. Hasnt rained so will have to do a ghetto water test somehow.. Here are some pictures that might help y'all find what it is. The interior is obviously not mine, just used to give the general location, however the blurry picture of the insulation is. Sorry, im too big to get in there.

Hey, sorry for the late response. I took mines into the dealer, and they said it was because of the humidity the a/c components located in that area were releasing water. I didn't really believe that crap, but they said if I put it on recirculation that it should stop. It hasn't been all that humid and it hasn't happened again as far as I know, so that might have had some truth to it.

You may have rubber trim issues somewhere near the hood release hatch, not sure though... just check it out anyway and have you checked the entire windshield for any leaks…

There's no way I'd be accepting the "humidity the a/c components located in that area were releasing water" answer. After awhile, that moisture is going to start to stink, and perhaps produce mold or milew; both unhealthy to be breathing in.

I live in an "Africa hot" summer climate in Florida, and during the summer when my AC is running, I've never once felt any water or moisture dripping from the dash.

Make them fix it.

I will check that tomorrow, I haven't had an issue for a while but a good thing to check.

Yeah I didn't believe that crap either. However I couldn't reproduce it/forgot about it for awhile and just remembered about it now. Ill see what I can do in the next few days.

My 2014 has been in the shop 3 times since I bought it in January for the same issue. It stormed last night and now it is going back for a 4th time! This is my 3rd Mustang so I am really frustrated and disappointed!

Wasn't there just another thread about something similar? Turned out to be leaves and debris clogging a drain hole...

Hello kk31970,

Welcome to the forum! My name is Deysha with Ford Service and I’d like to get this escalated to the customer service manager for your area if needed. Please, PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number.

My 2014 Convertible is leaking. I took it in to my Ford dealer to have the oil changed and they heard the water sloshing around in the quarter panel behind the driver's door. The guys who did the oil change tried to find the source and drain it but they said they were not equipped to handle it. I haven't been able to get it in for service due to my busy schedule and now it has rained here in Kansas City for the past four days. The floor behind the driver's seat is now soaked. Is this something Ford is going to charge me to fix? It looks like it is a known problem. I'm a little unhappy this new of a car has a problem like this and I could wind up having to pay for it let alone the inconvenience of taking it in and then being without a car while they fix it. Anyone else had experience with this? Will they know what the problem is and how to fix it when I do take it in?

Water in footwell

Our cars have 2 drains located on the engine bay side of the firewall. You can see the rubber drains protruding from the firewall directly behind the head on each side of the engine. Leaves easily block these drains this time of year. Just stick your fingers in the each drain (engine cold) and clear them.

Thanks for the tip! I'll try it and let you know. Hope it's something that easy to fix! I absolutely love this car.

I had this happen to me one time when I was driving in the rain. Now the car has only been driven like 5 times in the rain, so I don't have enough of a sample size to know if it's truly a problem. I have rubber floor mats now, so I have been checking the floor every time to see if there is water there after washing the car.
