Video report: 2011 V6 top speed at limiter...

Really have to get those tunes with the speed limiter removed.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqTqBg7zSr0

They build the new V6 cars with all this great performance and then cut them short.

I wonder if the Performance Package cars will be like this???

I've heard that 115 is the magic number but that the V6PP models will be able to go 146. Unverified, of course.

According to the Road and Track article I just read the answer is yes. They mention hitting the speed limiter at 113mph with a performance pack equipped v-6.

Limiting the 2011 V6 to 118 is retarded, it should be able to at least hit 140.

I understand why they do it on base cars with 17" tires, it is because they are not rated for the higher speed.

I would hope that on the V6 PP that they will raise the limit since it will have Z rated tires.

We have over 600 miles on our V6 as of today. We went on the autobahn and it was relatively empty and my wife started to complain that the car will not go faster. We were approaching 120MPH. In the USA that may be fast but here every small car can reach 200KPH which is 124MPH. Many can go a bit faster. This was a bit shameful because with the 2.73 gears the car is slow before 4000 RPM. After that it hauls really well but 118MPH??? It is bad enough that I had to find such an extreme work around for the North American nav maps. That's another story.

For sure, if I was in your place, I would definitely get higher speed rated tires and get a tune to remove or raise the speed limiter.

I agree with Ltngdrvr, get some higher speed rated tires and a tune to remove the speed limiter and you will see over 140 m.p.h. on the autobahn.

Since I have a Factory Tire on the Car that is has a 168 MPH Speed rating it seems kind of pointless, but Ford only has 1 Computer tune for the V6 and that is for the Stock 17's with the T rating

A stock 2005 Mustang GT with just the speed limiter removed will go 157 mph. I see no reason to think the 3.7L wont run even faster as it runs the same 1/4 mile trap speeds and has better gearing for top speed (The 2005 was geared to short in 4th and to tall in fifth topping out at 4800 rpm). That would be 6600 rpm in 4th in a Performance Package Car.

I wish I had known this before I purchased the car. I thought I was driving the car with "MyKey" with top speed restrictions. Now I have to spend $$$$ on a tune and jeopardize my warranty after buying the car to fix two problems as I see it. The Nav system should be flexible enough for owners to purchacse Maps of Mexico, Austrailia, Europe, etc from Navteq instead of only North America. Also to sell a car with a "Track Pack" or modded suspension is marketing the car to potential owners with performance driving in mind or driving events. Then to limit the car's top speed at 112 MPH is unfair. Thats my opinion.

Thats Ford Spec at least from the original info: Ive seen magazines quoting 113-115 mph and 146-147 mph. Im assuming its a combo of new tires and some pressure build-up.

They quote the top speed here as well. What I hate is that they all praised the car at FORD Media day and I am sure they signed waivers regarding what could be told or not about the car. That has to be embarassing to limit the Performance Package as well. My car came equipped with high speed rated tires. But I hate that my 2011 mustang tops out where my 2008 Focus does (even lower).

Eurocobra and Heidelberg Germany doesnt supply a hint?

Kind of embarrassing to get run over by a VW Polo.
