Vert or coupe.
Vert or coupe.
I have to make up my mind, but this is turning into an endless debate between my wife, kid and me whether i should get a vert or coupe. Seems like not a lot of people are getting vert's around here. Any reasons why ! Besides the obvious which is price. What is the downside if getting a vert ? Fewer options, less frame rigidity. If i were to order a 5.0 Vert, Sterling Grey, saddle interior, confort group, HID, Brembo package, spoiler delete, security group, and 3.73 gear. Is that a possible order ?

I didn't order a convertible for two reasons: 1) A little bit steep for my liking, price-wise. 2) I'm really picky about the little details in a car. How much the body shakes, the wheels vibrating, needing alignment, interior trim coming lose and rattling, etc etc. I have a '04 Hyundai, and I treat it like some people treat their sports cars. My point? In my experience, convertibles do not hold up in these respects as well as a coupe/sedan. That's why to me, a convertible makes a great second, summer-only car. Fewer miles, less wear and tear, and it stays as nice to drive as they day I bought it.
I have a 05 vert since new it,s a great car no rattle, the frame has good rigity, their more bracing under a vert than a coupe the 11 are even better, Brad has a vert I thing he may be selling it and he has had on a road corse no complants here!!!! go for it Check out project sorce horse

I am getting a vert so I can take my wife and 2 children on cruises, sunday morning drives, etc, etc. This will be my DD but I work out of the home and barely but 7k miles a year on my car.
It's true that there are a few compromises when you buy a convertible.
They are a little less rigid, although I understand the 11's are so good in this regard that you'll hardly care. My '08 is good enough that this is a non-issue for me.
Less trunk space although it's still a good size.
Yes, they are a little heavier so if you want a couple of extra tenths in the 1/4, think about this. The extra weight is about equivalent to having an extra person in the car.
Obviously they are easier to break into, so if you live in an apartment complex, or regularly park in bad areas, this is a valid concern.
But given all that, I haven't regretted paying an extra $5K for a convertible for even a second. On a nice day, they are rolling therapy. A hardtop is just a car, a convertible is an event.
Oh, and if you like listening to the rumble of an aftermarket exhaust, you'll hear 50% more if it with the top down, and this is a huge plus for me.

-no option for GT Vert and 3.73 gears
-what is car being used for? if daily driver, and seeing how you live in montreal...winters might not be to kind
-if for pure extra car driving enjoyment...nothing beats a vert!!!!! (but im kinda bias)

I personally went with the coupe for asthetic reasons. I just don't like 4 seat convertibles, don't know why, just perfer the look of a two seat roadster.
On the other hand, I do like the open feeling a convertible provides, so I ordered the glass roof. Now I'm good even when it's raining.

The way I see it is: if you want a motorcycle, get one. If you want a car, get a coupe. Just my opinion, but that's what I think of convertibles - naturally if I could afford a Shelby Cobra, I'd get it, but I can't! Also, since you've got a family, if I were you I'd consider the trouble you'd have if the vert turned over in a ditch. I saw a high schooler in a Chrysler product upside down in a ditch in 2008, and following his rescue his question to his mother was, "Why'd you get me a vert!"

I had a convertible many years ago. The only time i liked putting the top down was at night. The sun gets really hot shining down on you on a 90 degree day LOL!!! I'll never own another one.
Rent a convertible for a few days to make sure you will like one.

+1 I rented a Hertz Shelby 'Vert for my B-day and didn't really care for it. The sun beats down on you. It's windy, extremely noisy, and you have to smell/taste other cars exhaust. I made the mistake of getting on the interstate with the top down and it was horrible. We had two semi-trucks on each side and my wife and I had to yell to hear each other. Putting the top up isn't much better either. Still a lot of road noise. If I want open air, I'd rather take my motorcycle for a spin.
The added cost of the convertible is the biggest deal breaker to me. I also just personally feel the coupe looks better. And finally...yes, I'm going to bring up the trunk again...the coupe has more trunk space.
The convertible is...well...a convertible. If it's worth it to you, go for it.

i had a vert gt. i loved it. regret selling it. noise is not as bad as some ppl make out i think. i drove with top down a lot. unless it was mid summer(texas is hot)
i want a 11 vert. cost will prob keep me in a coupe unless i just get a 09-2010. cause then i can get one for under 25k

I say if you can afford it get it. Its a wonder we have not worn out the motor that puts the top up and down on my Moms car because she flat out uses it every single chance she gets. She is 74 years young by the way and loves this car so Mustangs cross over all kinds of demographic lines. Gotta love that. I think the verts are just drop dead sexy but thats me.
The best vert I have ever driven is the Thunderbirds of last decade. I LOVE how the rear slopes DOWN, not up like a Mustang. You can see EVERYTHING. The Mustang kind of surrounds you and blocks a lot of the view.
