For those that still wonders what is going on inside that 5.0 engine , well here is a very good video that explains it. Hope this isn't a repeat.

Pretty cool if a bit light (but given the format I suppose it has to be).

One glaring error that jumped out at me was when they were looking at the cams in the head and talking about how fast the cams turn. The one guy was saying that the cams turn twice as fast as the crank.

WRONG

Just the opposite, the cams turn half the speed of the crank.

And trying to explain all the cam timing detail in such a short video was a waste.

I liked the guys that used to host the show a lot better.

Well at least they weren't bashing it and saying how a pushrod motor can do the same thing and make the more power and blah blah blah. Although the technical info was a bit inaccurate he was in the ball park and that went over most peoples heads anyhow. As I recall the Honda S2000 and BMW M3 both rev to like 8500 RPM. Possibly more actually. These days 7000 RPM redline is not uncommon. I wonder how far these mustangs can safely rev?

The recip assembly probably is up to the task so it all boils down to the valvetrain and possibly the VVT system employed by the 5.0, beleive it or not, the VVT system used in the 4.6 3v is better suited to the task of high RPM operation.
