Turbo and emissions?

I'm really debating whether to supercharge or turbo my v6. (please, let's keep this conversation about this and not how I should just buy a supersonic jet).

My biggest concern is emissions in NY. The turbo kits are obviously not going to have cats. Is this going to be an issue? I think modern cars are tested via computer and looking for codes if I'm not mistaken? So, would the tune take that into account and make it more likely to pass inspection or would I be screwed since this is my DD? How do most turbos in general pass emissions testing?

If they do a visual inspection looking for the cats then you are going to be SOL.

Thanks ltngdriver...that's the other thing I was worried about too. I don't think visual inspection is required by law anymore though...is that right do you know? I'll ask my shop that I trust too if they do inspect them.

Hmm...I'd really like the turbo but I just might not be able to risk it.

They check them here.

Guess you could just swap it out to get it inspected then put it back on.
