Ttv8 ?

Ford seems to intend to use the 'twin-force' (twin turbo) technology as well as possibly some form of variable valve displacement to improve gas mileage. Perhaps not only will we see a TTV6 mustang with the next major update (2010 or 2011 or whatever the currently accepted date for that will be), but also a TTV8.
While I personally prefer supercharging to improve HP/Tq this will certainly make for an interesting possible lineup for the next gen mustangs.

Another small blurb about Ford going to a 'twin-force' system.
I have to admit, as much as I prefer supercharging to turbocharging, that lincoln concept engine would look great in a mustang. Time to learn how to supercharge a turbocharged engine perhaps.

A TTV8 would be awesome because w/ out the turbos it would only have to put out like 200 hp and then with the turbos it would be like 350-400 so it would be kinda cheap technology.but a TT factory mustang just doesnt sound right ya know?


yea what would happen if you put a s/c & a tubro on the same car? at the smae time?

I dont believe anyone mentioned switching from a turbo charged system to a supercharged system

no idea but at least you got the idea unlike ... well never mind.
It has been done before ... aircraft engines in ww2 used the combination and I remember some cars back in the 80's gave it a try using the supercharger to make up for the turbo lag that was prevelant back then. the problem if I remember correctly seemed to be that it was too expensive to use the positive displacement type superchargers and the centrifugal type had the same problem with lag since it is essentially the same as a turbocharger just using the engine to turn the turbin rather than the exhaust.
Both seem to have come a long way since then and the difference between the two seems mostly to be just enough to get a nice argument going between the turbo guys and the sc guys .

They were messing with TT on the BOSS engines IIRC ... so take that as you will....

IIRC they had the N/A 7L... but also a TTV8 7L
700 alone, imagine it with TT...
Yeah... that's what I thought
A TwinForce (TF) V6
and a TFF for the v8 (you can use your imagination on what the F is for)

actually i have, it was an article in one of the Euro mags on an 04 Audi A4 1.8T or S4, i'll have to dig up the article if i still have it, pretty crazy it was some dr. from jersey or somewhere on the east coast.....

back to the subject, TTV8 would be veddy interesting

LOL. TT V6 for a GT350 and TT V8 for a GT500 sounds about right to me. Of course a TT Boss V8 would be more than powerful enough to make any such application pretty pointless without the added traction of awd, and such a car would likely cost Skyline/911 money by the time you were done with it. But this thing would no doubt be ridiculously fast, all one has to do to see that is to take a look at the torque figures on Mercedes TT V12's and then imagine what another liter of displacement and direct injection would manage.

I have little doubt if production numbers were kept reasonable and execution was competent Ford could easily sell the lot of them as these cars would absolutely be the deal of the century. Unfortunately at the moment Ford probably doesn't have the the stones to do it. Too bad.

BTW, Isn't VW supposed to have a car with a SC and Turbo engine slated for production? ("IROC?")

well I love the power a turbo brings on but I must say I LOVE the sounds of a screaming supercharger..something a turbo just can't match

I know in the past Ford was reluctant to use a single turbo because of warranty claim issues. Lets face it, some people just don't change their oil and take care of things. Turbo engines require a specific oil type as I recall so you have to rely on the customer doing proper maintenance AND using the correct oil. Jiffy Lube people aren't going to be doing that correctly, it just won't happen. With twins on the thing, I imagine that will open them up to possibly some substantial warranty claim issues.

Now if suddenly they spec a synthetic or something for these engines, that would be different. You still have to hope customer get them done on the proper intervals. I would say though that if they don't bring a bigger gun to the show, they'll blow the smaller ones they have to keep pace. We know something will happen, it's just nuts to guess. The possibilties are endless and they obviously don't want us to know...YET.

An article today on BON quoted product development VP Derrick Kuzak as saying the TTV6 would appear on the MKS in 2009, though likely at first with on ly the Direct injection, and later TT. He also said in the next 3 or 4 years the Twin Force technology would go into effect on a variety of "4 and 6 cyl engines". No mention of V8s.
