Trouble fitting into the mustang

There are several discussions going on right now about the weight/size of the current mustang. Some based on a poll ford took of customer wants and desires, some based on performance, some on economy, and others just to discuss something.

My personal opinion is that the present mustang ( which I dearly love) is too large. Both in weight and size. Personally the width is great and makes the present model have a commanding stance, but the height and length are a little much. And I don't know very many enthusiasts that don't think the mustang could benefit from a diet.

Along thos lines, I was wondering how many people are having trouble fitting into the present stang, and where those troubles are. Me, I'm average size at 6'0" and 185lbs, and the stang has more then enough head room, front leg room and hip/shoulder room.

I am interested in how many of us actually have trouble and if it is head room/leg room, or what. Please take the poll

length for the 1969 Mach 1 was 187.4" which is about the same length as the 05-06 (188")
The data could be wrong tho??

I don't mean to be stereotyping, but the current mustang is made for 'hefty' (north)american men.

i'm 5'9" and am pretty athletic and i slide around in the car WAY too much for my liking. i normally am content with the way i fit in vehicles and on motorcycles, as i'm taller then most females, but this car is clearly oversized for 99% of women. luckily i'm tall enough that the pedals and seat height are ok, however the seatbelt cuts accross my neck, especially when the windows are open - i can't imagine what it's like for those under 5'7". at least if they had one of those adjustable height belt holders or something.

i figure ford is just trying to be accomodating, but seriously, if the german car makers can make a normal sized vehicle, and still sell a LOT of them in north america, why can't ford with their sports car?

as for the general size of the whole car, i think it's actually ok...if anything it's a bit long, but the width and height are fine by me. for the coupe, i wouldn't want to lose any height or it would feel much too clausterphobic.

just one girl's opinion...

I think the Stang could use a good 10% off all measurements, including weight. The S197 seems to be replaying the size and weight trajectory of the '64-'73 Stang -- ever bigger, ever heavier. I'd rather the Stang reflect the size and trimmer proportions of the original.

It is a performance car, after all, and ought to be slim and trim, lean and mean, not large and portly.

Perhaps the issue of the ever more rotund American physique, maybe the answer is a little less fast food and a lot more exercise time, rather than ever larger cars to accommodate ever larger guts 'n butts.

If you're looking for size and hauling capacity, I can recommend any number of large trucks, vans and sedans.

When it's nice out, my car has unlimited headroom.

I have only test driven one so my reply is only based on first impressions of the short time I had in the car.

I am 6' 1" / 210lbs with long legs.

Width wise, I thought was perfect.
I thought there was too much space between my head and the roof of the car.
My legs fit fine.
Didn't check out the car for too long though.

I'm 6'2" 250 large build. I fit in the car comfortably. Even have headroom with my helmet on at the track.

I'm a "bigger" guy than normal (6'1" 265lb) and I have a 34" inseam, but I would not have bought a Mustang had it been any smaller. Yes, I slide a bit side to side under crazy conditions, but once the roll cage, 5 points, fire extinguishers and all that jazz are in place, you have your helmet on and are using the car like the Factory Racer, everything gets snug. Not that I have all that, mind you, but Ford needed to build a car they could race and they need all that space. Plus, my wife's dog fits on her lap comfortably and nothing feels better than having the dog laugh at someone as you fly by!

Soooooo true is that statement!

Back to topic though, when I test drove an '05, I fit very nicely into it. It fealt as though it were made only for me. That's how perfect I fit. I'm 6'2 or 6'3, about 245 (my weight changes more than my socks do), and I have about 2-3 inches extra head room, with putting the seat ALLLL the way back, I could barely reach the petals. I'd just hate to have to ride in the back seat on any Mustang

I'm 6'4" 220 and fit like a glove. It's the first Stang I don't have to force myself into.

6'1" 210 with no problems.

I would however suggest they redesign the front seat back thinner, for some more knee room for the rear passengers. The only time I feel cramped in my car is when someone has to go behind the driver.

6'6" 230 Wide hips not fat A$$. Oh yeah very little supersizing here.

This is the first Mustang in 20yrs that I have felt comfortable in. All the previous models were not wide enough in the drivers area. I would end up with sore hips and thighs in a matter of minutes.

6'4"ish 220. Its almost too big. The knees knock on the tranny column, but that happens for me in any car.

If they make the mustang much any smaller I wont be able to fit in one, I fit fine width and height wise but I only have about an 1" of room between my knee and the dash...

I am 6'5" 200 lbs. and I fit fine. My only trouble is when I stop at a traffic light I sometimes have to lean forward to see it. This is typical though. I wish there was a factory option for a glass roof.

the 'stang fits fine for me (super comfy for my 100 mi commute everyday), although it took some time getting use to the dimensions, coming from a Focus. now when i sit in my bestfriends G35C, i feel claustaphobic(sp?)....
