2011 Mustang V6, Driving down the road this morning and the trans just jumps out of gear! The little yellow wrench light near the tachometer came on and i coasted to the side of the interstate. Back to the shop I go! SMH!!
The yellow wrench indicates "limp home" mode. A setting the PCM/ECU sets itself to when one of its major sensors fails, or loses contact with.
I had this happen to a F150 when the clamp from the filter within my CAI got loose, and the filter dropped. Too much air from the MAF was seen, and the PCM/ECU did not like this. I lost power, but was able to "limp" off the road under engine power. Fixed the clamp using a dime to tighten the clamp, and off I went. Code cleared on it's own after so many restarts.
Have you checked under the hood for any obvious loose connections? Some have simply shut off the engine, restarted, and it cleared. Thos are the worst, as you never really know if it will happen again, and at a bad time.

iceman, The Wifey's '11(5.0) pulled the same stunt while we were on a trip. It went to limp mode, little wrench just a shining. Turned out it was just the throttle body sensor. Forty five minutes at Beach Ford in South Carolina, and we were on our way. Hope it's that simple for you. Good luck.
