Track Tires
So this is more directed towards people who have tracked their 11-12 GT's and 2012 Boss.
In terms of tires, what do you think about the Michelin Pilot Super Sports, Nitto Invos or Nitto NT01's?
Any input is appreciated.

(In my opinion) NT01s are your best bet for a track tire that you will get a few weekends out of, and provide great grip. They're not a Hoosier R6, but they don't cost nearly as much.
I run NT01s in 275/40/18 almost exclusively.

I would not consider the Invo a track tire, and I've not heard great things about them on the street either.
The Michelins have a great looking tread pattern, but 300 treadwear means they're not going to be very grippy; plus they are expensive.

If you are interested in a dual-purpose street/track tire, check out the Nitto NT05, Dunlop Direzza Star Spec, or Hankook Ventus RS3; but don't expect them to last 20,000 miles on the street.

I'm wanting to have a deticated set of tires/wheels for the street and a set for the track. I'm thinking I'll go with the Super Sports for the street. Heard nothing but good things about them. As for the track, I think I'll go with the Nitto NT01's.
Thanks for your input.

Are you saying the R6 is a better tire than the NT01? And if so, why? I'm not worried really about the money, if I'm going to spend the money to track my car then I want tires that are going to give me the best experience possible.

I real track tire will not be used on the street. I've seen some try to save money by going cheap and then the tires overheat on the track. You need a tire that is designed to get hot and keep grip.
I know it wasn't in your list, but Toyo RA1's are great as well as the real soft compound Hankooks (for time trials). RA1's are better for longer sessions.

Typically I have seen NT01s last 3-4 weekends on an S197. The set I have right now is worn well after one weekend, I'm thinking I'll be lucky to get 3 weekends out of this first set.
But at any rate, the NT01 will last longer. The R6 is about 50-75$ more expensive per tire as well, but a better tire for the track.

I'm a quality over quantity kinda guy. I'll give both the R6 and the NT01's a shot. Like I said earlier, I'd rather spend the money for a quality tire than skimp and get a **** tire that's not gonna last longer than a day or two of tracking.
I also like to stick with America so I'm gonna pass on the Toyo's. Thanks for the input though.

Nittos are manufactured by Toyo, FWIW.

Wow, I actually didn't know that. Thanks. In all honesty, after reading your posts, I'll probably go with the R6's for tracking. Might be a little expensive but will pay off in the long run.
