I recently purchased a new se of wheels and tires with tpms already installed. When ordering I was clear that my car was a 2011 so I'm assuming the right style was installed. I was told they automatically would learn location and reset. I've driven close to 60 miles and still have the error message. Do you have to buy the tool or are the sensors possibly defective?

 

I'm about to get new Wheels and tires as well. Can someone post the correct process of replacing the TPMS etc on the new rims....?

 

It's funny I bought new rims with new sensors and no lights or errors came on. I didn't have to reset anything.

 

I'm afraid that they put the wrong ones in and now there's no way to verify. When I installed them no lights came on. Then 20 miles later I got the tpms malfunction message. I don't mind investing in the tool if that's the way to fix it. Is this the only type of error message?

Use your current sensors, and you'll save $$ and aggravation...

 

Sent a picture of the valve stem to the vendor so we'll see if they installed the wrong ones. I wanted two sets one for winter and one set of wheels for the summer so u wanted to just bolt these on and go. Also haven't had luck locally with people mounting tires without wrecking your wheels.

 

So the valve stems on the original rims won't work? Can't you just order 4 new ones from the service dept at the dealer?

 

2010+ don't need the tool. they either put in the wrong ones or one of them is defective. Really sucks either way. Where did u buy them from?

 

I got them from 5.0resto. Exchanged emails and the pic yesterday. I guess you can tell from the valve stem which sensor they are. I didn't check my old wheels to see if the valve stems match. They said they'll resolve it. If one is bad is there any way to tell which one it is? Here's a pic of the wheels on the car. Happy with the way they look. Got the 18x9.5 size with Nitto 555's. Handles great.

I recommend you to check with your Ford dealer first to see if they can reset the TPMS. If they can't do so, then resort to the manufacturer.

The tool, even though not necessary, will still work on an '11.
The procedure is the same as the '07-'09. It would tell you if they're registering or if one is bad.

50Resto is a reputable company, if something's wrong they'll prob take care of it.

I got one at the dealer for $18 but that was 3 yrs ago, now they're abt $35.

Yes here's the part #, You need four new stems to reuse your original sensors on new rims..

 

I'm waiting for a response from the vendor. They've been great thus far and verified the sensors are the correct one. Maybe one is defective so it sounds like the tool would tell which one is bad. It's weird I have chevy and that one lists each location and if one has a problem you can tell right from the dash which location has the issue.

 

I bought new Wheels with new TPMS sensors from American Muscle and they sent me the directions to reset with the tool. At first I did not get a dash light but after a day or so I did. I reset the sensors IAW the directions and no issues since.

 

The supplier shipped the reset tool with instructions today so I'm crossing my fingers that will work. Glad to hear you had the same problem and it's now fixed. You would think it's highly unlikely one of the sensors is bad.

 

One time when I changed my wheels it didn't read them so I used the tool and it worked fine, and it was a set that had been on my car already.
It never happened again after that. Sometimes the sensors go dormant.
Let us know what happens.

 

Just wanted to let everyone know what happened just in Case someone has the same problem. Using the tool I determined the driver side rear wheel was not responding. They sent me a new sensor and are going to reimburse me for the mounting. Got the sensor installed reset all 4 wheels and no more light. I'd highly recommend buying the tpms reset tool even though 2010 and up cars self learn. This tool comes in handy to detect faulty sensors and also may be needed if you swap out wheels alot. Apparently the self learn feature doesn't always work.
