Torsen differential now available from Ford Racing
Ford Racing is now offering the Torsen differential from the Boss 302. It comes as an entire axle assembly with 3.73 gears:

Kind of expensive at over $1,400, but would anyone consider getting one?

$1,400 for the whole rear axle sounds like a bargain to me. I've always been a fan of Torsen-type diffs, just kind of cool how they work without clutchpacks and all.
I would still consider just going with an Eaton Tru Trac (Detroit) but if it is the entire axle I'd say it's not bad but not great either. Good rear end though. Great that it has a lot of workable bolt ins. If I owned a GT500 of another year I'd be all over it, or any S197 for that matter. So in that aspect it's a good idea and nice just to swap assemblies instead of the differential.
FRPP has had a torsen diff available by itself for a long time.
The Detroit True-Trac is the same type of diff, if you look around you can find them for about $450.
I suppose that if you were wanting to upgrade to a 3.73 and helical gear diff and the shipping wasn't too bad then $1400 might not be too bad since you could sell your original rear to a 05-10 V6 owner and get some of your money back.

I think its a good deal as long as your current rear isn't the bottom of the food chain. Even the 3.31 MT GT base is an upgrade for a 2.73 V6. Sell it to offset the price of the Torsen rear. And as already noted, avoid all the hassles/risks/downtime changing gears in your existing diff. Plus its the green solution: you don't throw away the time and effort put into your original rear. Don't throw those old gears away; give them a new home.
