just wasn't like this in the past. the new model would be coming around be Sept-Oct but times have changed . Seems like every manufacturer wants to ahead of the game. It weird i guess for anyone that has a current model ex: I have a 12 GT but mine is now last years model even though were only 2 months in 2012..Lol

I learned this when we bought my wife's 05 Altima, just 2 days after they started hitting dealership floors. Was expecting to get an 04 and was very surprised that the 05s were already out.

I read an article in one of the car magazines a while back that said Ford
wanted to try to have new models being introduced roughly every
6 months. If you look at the number of spring intros coming, the new
Taurus, Mustang, Escape and Focus Electric and that fall intros now tend
to be mid to late Oct maybe that's what going on.

The 2009's were only Job 1 also. Because the '10 diaper mobile was coming.
I remember because Bullitt production started with 08-Job 2 and carried over to the 09 Bullitt-Job 1. And that was it for the original S197 retro design.

I agree with OP here.
Ford is getting crazy with the car model designations and release dates.
Whatever happened to 1/2 year models if a company was going to release a "new" or "freshened up" model so early in the calendar year?
Why is it so hard to wait until October or November to release the next calendar year model, and if design and development finishes well before that and production begins say in February of the current year (like in this case with the Mustangs) calling it a 2012 1/2 like they used to do?
This also gives them an opportunity to release a new color or special wheels or so forth for just that 1/2 model year, to give it some exclusivity as well since it will only be in production for 6-8 months!
