TIRE REPLACEMENT brembo package

So, like many of you, I'm looking at replacing my pirelli's soon and like many of you, I don't relish the $400+ per tire.

I'm looking for suggestions of other summer tires with 90%+ the performance at a reduced price and better longevity. I also wouldn't mind increasing the footprint in the rear. Could I go with 275's or would that be unwise with the 9" rim??? If so would I be looking at 275 40's or 35's???

For that kind of change http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2010-...Q5fAccessories looks pretty attractive, do I remember that someone said they would work with the brembos???

A guy on another forum that tracks his was running 285/35's on the back of his with no problems with sidewall roll.

If you just want a comparable to the pirelli's tire at a decent price, look at the hankooks or the generals at tirerack.com they are less than $200 a piece and just as highly rated and better wear rated.

I ran the General Exclaim UHPs before. Great tire for the price. I may go back to them for my next set. What surprised me was how well they performed in the wet. In the dry, they needed about 30 mins to warm up before they got grippy...

Yes the 2010 GT500 wheels will clear the Brembos...the GT500 has the same brakes standard...duhhhhhhhh

Another option for you, and not too far away from you either: https://themustangsource.com/f722/fs...1/#post6001936

Hankook has some pretty cheap tires in the 255/40R19 size.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...er=19&x=38&y=8

Heck even the Michelin PS2's are right at 400 bucks a tire

And there are cheaper tires to be had in the 245/45R19 size if your willing to go with an all-season tire.

What are the specs for the 19" rim fitted to the GT? If its a 19 x 8 or 19 x 9 then the rim is an inch to a half an inch to narrow. 285/35R19's are designed for a minimum rim width of 9.5 inches.

I know tires are ruggedly over engineered for such bone headed manuevers but one has to consider the legal implications for installing a tire that was never designed to go on a 19 x 9 or 19 x 8 rim. Especially when said tire fails for some reason and the car in question goes through a bus filled with a bunch of old nuns and handi-capable kids and the bus bursts into flames in the vicinity of a large group of lawyers who have to agonizingly capture on video said nuns and kids screaming as they are slowly roasted in buring gasoline and oil.

Impiric conclusions do nothing to protect an individual when it boils down to legal trouble and ignoring the engineered data.

Short answer is yes, you can absolutely run a 275 out back on the Brembo rims. The 03/04 Cobras ran this size on a 9" wide rim, as does the current Camaro. Some may argue that this size rim is less than ideal support for a 275 for track purposes, but if you're driving the car mostly for street purposes, you are losing nothing.

You can go with 275 on a 9" rim. That's typically the maximum tire width for that rim size.

I would run a 275/35/19. This tire will be 26.6" tall vs. 27" stock, giving you a little boost in gearing. A 40 aspect ratio is going to be too tall.

In that size you've got a number of choices. Nitto Invo, Nitto NT05, Bridgestone RE050A, Continental ExtremeContact DW, Hankook Ventus V12, etc...

Not exactly sure what your budget is, but the Ventus V12 is a pretty good street tire. I replaced my Bridgestone RE050As with them on my 370Z and they offer greater tread life, excellent wet traction (the best tire I've ever driven in the rain), and pretty decent dry traction. They have a lot of grip but overall the sidewalls are softer, so they aren't as responsive on turn-in. I did drive the **** out of them and they perform well and are very predictable. They're only $204/ea in 275/35/19.

This time around I am probably going to go with something more aggressive (NT05 probably) but if I was just looking for a good street tire that's definitely one to consider.

The RE050As are also a good tire (better than the V12s in terms of dry grip, and probably on par with the PZeros) for $300ish a pop. They do wear quickly, though. I just got 18k out of them on my Z and I know the 5.0 is a bit harder on the rear tires (though the ability to rotate if you keep a non-staggered setup would help with wear).

Eric...when I was considering tire sizes on past vehicles, this calculator came in handy to determine profile, etc to get my desired size.

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

As for tires...if you go only with summer tires then I'm not sure as I've always had AS's. If you go with AS's, the Continental ExtremeContact DW's previously mentioned are very good in my experience. The others seem good, too...but I don't have any experience with those.

Thanks everyone for the plethora of information. Now I have a great starting place to do a little personal research and make a choice. Probably have a month or so safely on my stockers....

I just recently replaced my stock pirelli's with conti's extremecontact dw 275/40/19..

I wanted the same thing as you, little to no compromise in performance and cheaper and longer lasting.

The only thing i would do different would be to get the hankooks and go from a 40 to a 35 tire size.

275/40/19 all around?

Why are you guys changing your tires so fast? I have about 6k miles on mine and they look great so far. I haven't rotated them or anything either.

The Hankook Ventus V12 look like a good tire. What is tread life like??? Does anyone know if I could expect to get 15k semi aggressive miles out of them???

The Continental ExtremeContact DWS have a 50k mile warranty, which sounds amazing, but what are the performance trade offs???

The Michelin Pilot Sport a/s Plus also is highly rated with a 45k mile warranty?

Now like everyone else, more hp, more handling, more brakes sound like the way it is intended to be. However a 600 # bench press sounds better than a 500# bench, but then again, that's how I jacked my right shoulder.

I fully intended to to add some hp increasing mods, then I realized, I pretty much don't use all that I have. So how much traction is enough. I hardly ever get a chance to really romp on this car anywhere near it's potential. And in honesty, it's potential far exceeds my own as a driver.

So how much is enough and for what $$$ amount? We shall see! Input???
