Post Tire Air Pressure?

Hey guys. This is just a general discussion/opinion/fact thread.

So I have 285/35/19 tires with 19x9.5 wheels all round. I usually have 40 psi in the tires.

Is that a good thing?

How much should it be?

I get a tiny bit better mpg with 40 psi.

How much do yall put in your tires?

40 psi may cause the crown of your tread to wear faster than the sides, particularly on wider tires. Whatever gains you achieve in gas mileage will be offset by uneven treadwear. Not to mention you will have a harsher ride and less off-the-line traction. 36 psi is the most I run.

What it says to on the door of the car, but I've got stock size tires too so not sure if that's right for your setup.

Easiest way is to try it at whatever PSI you want to run, and keep on eye on treadwear. Higher pressure then stock doesn't automatically mean uneven wear.

get one of these and check your tire in 3 spots every so often. Adjust your tire pressure according what the gauge tells you.

LOL...

From my understanding, on my last car i had XL tires which had max psi of 56, so i put around 40 to 42 in them.

Most standard tires have a max psi of 44 or 51. So i put 38-40 in them.

When i had XL tires and i put 42 psi in them, i had a nice mpg increase as well felt less cracks on the road.

But with these standard tires, i use 40 psi, but notice a very very miniscule increase in mpg.

just wanted to make sure that my tires wont wear faster because of my stupidity of putting 40 psi, as these wide tires are not cheap

I actually run 38 in front and 36 in the rear, still have even tire wear and that is the stock 255/40/19's, also that seems to be the pressure they handle the best at on mine.

your tires can look like they are wearing evenly but you won't really know until you use the gauge on them

I recently upgraded to 275/40r19, I am not sure what psi is recommended, I think 36psi is what tireshop put.

I run 36-38 psi in my tires. 40 psi is a little too much
