Yep, both times I used Mobil 1 5W-20. I'd change it if it needs to be changed. I guess there are a few guys on the forums that have 40k mi with the tick and nothing bad has happened so far.

The majority of people with the tick (not all) are those who changed their oil before the recommend service interval. No offence to anyone but changing the oil for the first time at 2000miles on a brand new car is just dumb. Absolutely useless. The factory oil has additives in it which help during break in. It is in your best interest to use that oil until its physically time to change it. Using 5w 50 is not a good idea for winter (for those who have actual winters) as that oil is too thick and has trouble penetrating the bearings at the top of the cams (usually where the tick is emitted from). Track pack cars call for 5w 50 because it is assumed the car will be trashed on a track. Unless you are doing so, there is no real reason to use it. The thicker oil usually has different thermal properties which is one of the reasons they recommend it for the track pack.

The reality is though, at the end of the day you either got a good engine or a bad one. The tick is contingent on assembly and manufacturing of each specific engine.

I used Valvoline 5w20 FULL synthetic for second oil change. No problems yet.

My 1st was done approx little over 6k and then the 2nd at 12k-ish.

I remember back in the days when oil change means = every 3k miles. Only with such vehicles as Bmw's would do it at 5k. But back then I had no knowledge of what the full synthetic oil is, I just thought Bmw's and their oil last longer because they are nicer cars.

Question is, why would any car get any kind of abnormal(?) noise after an oil change, why. I have never heard of such a thing as 'you get a ticking noise if you change oil before (or after) recommended service interval' nonsense. - that is until I got the Mustang - can this car be so sensitive.

Speaking of which, what actually is recommended interval for our cars? Is it based on conventional 'synthetic blend' that Ford dealer uses, the Full Synthetic must have different intervals?!

Im not sure about the exact recommended interval but the car can go 10k miles without changing oil no problem. Thats exactly when i changed my oil. Full synthetic always in 5w 20. Since the engine can be problematic you need to be careful when you change the oil, how you change it and which oil you use. Most other cars, this does not apply and i agree with you that its b/s we have to even worry about it.

I've ran nothing but 87 octane in my car since getting her.

Such as?
And they are still necessary after 3k miles??
I'd love to see the evidence on this.

So for me it was the 2nd oil change.
I recommend you get it checked out at your Ford Dealer, Coyote5-0. Be sure to speak with your service manager as he is in the best position to ensure a proper diagnosis, and will be able to provide available options and/or coverage for any work needed.

You can schedule an appointment online here. Let me know the outcome.

FWIW I changed the oil at 3k on a non-TP GT with Amsoil 5w20, no ticks through 40k.

That's a steal. I can't get it under 80 here in Indiana.

Have just over 3,000 miles on mine. Had 2 synthetic 5w50 oil changes. Both were due to timing cover leaks. Not really a choice there. But this is my second season of ownership so I probably would have done it anyway. Unfortunately I have the ticking noise. But will address it with my Dealer again in the Spring. Do not want to waste potential cruise nights remaining with the car torn apart.

You should never change the oil viscosity, EVER. Not smart.

Please let me know when you’re ready to bring it in, 14Glassback.

Thanks Deysha, I have been out of town for the past few weeks so I haven't been able to bring it into the dealer, but I will be this weekend and we will see how it goes. The thing is, the first time I got an oil change at my dealership at around 4,000 miles I never really had a ticking noise, its just after the second one that its become very prevalent. I remember checking the oil levels and everything checked out okay so not really sure whats going on. Also, the ticking at idle and acceleration only seems to happen when the car is fully warmed up after an hour or two of driving.

You’re welcome, BLK STANG! Thank you for the update. I would bring it in after driving it for a while then. Or be sure to let the service manager know the full details of when it happens so they can duplicate it. Keep me posted on what they say.
