Did anyone replace the 401a shift ****, the same one from the buillit mustang?

I finally received the small boot retainer, which looks kind of like crap. Here's a quick crappy pic with a cell phone flash at night. Ill get better pics. But can you see that the boot retainer/adaper doesn fully cover down until where the boot is? Maybe you can't really tell but it's not flush over the leather is what Im saying. That's not the shifter, the silver/metal part. It's the retainer that's very skinny.
