Taillight mod on 2011?!?!?

So did some searching for this on the forum but found nothing. Those anyone know if the trunk/back bumper/taillight area on the 13' is the same size as the 11'?!?!? Because If this is the case, I wonder how much and if its possible to just have the new fancy lights installed on the back of my 11............if anyone has any info, that would be what's up! Thanks

There was a photo of this. They did bolt the new ones on, but they leave a gap at the bottom of the assembly.

Yeah, from looking at the 13's in person, you would need the whole bumper assembly as it has a slightly different contour which fits the new tail lights.

The boys at AM tried installing the 2013 tails in a 2010-12 and took some pictures. Gap confirmed. Saw the pic in a post at AFM.

You mean '13 tails on a 10/12, right?

Basically you might need to change the rear bumper in order to make the rear fascia fit. Remember the 2010-12 models have a tail light with a little angle at the bottom which was removed on the 2013 model

Yes, sorry.

It's not as easy as just plugging in the new lights for them to work. The wiring is different as well as the SJB, which would require an all new wire harness for the vehicle. Those taillights are actually pretty complicated little devices.

I know the new taillights are complicated, but isn't the interface going to be similar? I mean you usually hide the complexity right?

I am sure the after market will make a plug and play in a few short months.

They plug and play. All functions work properly when you plug and play as well.

Nothing like someone blabbing off about how something is without actually knowing a thing about it...

Maybe the after market will come out with a 2010-2012 OEM style bumper cover with 2013 shape around tailights. I'd buy it.
